64282, WTF, took my car to a shop to have them fix my oil pressure gauge, it's not even hooked up!!! Posted by CrashedMax, Jan-30-04 03:38 AM
Okay here's the deal, I purchased my car a while back with an HRC stage 2 installed with a boost & oil pressure gauge. I have installed an EGT, Fuel pressure, and Apexi Turbo timer. The entire time I had my car the oil pressure gauge stayed right at around 25-35 psi depending on the temperature that day, but it never went up or down when I accelerated, it always stayed constant. I thought this was normal until I read a thread on here about the oil pressure going up when you accelerate. I was told to check the back of the block and I'd see the sender back there, well I poked around and didn't see anything. It's been below 0 every day here for a while, I work full time and go to school, so I decide to say F it and take it to a local shop here that specializes in installing import upgrades, and they said they have done many oil pressure gauges. I go to pick up my car and they tell me they think my gauge is broken, and they couldn't get it to work so they didn't charge me.....damn, still no luck, but now the gauge stays at 0 psi and never ever moves. So I decide to pull the gauge out of the pod and disconnect it so I can send it back to Autometer and what do I see, the light bulb is wired up and the little tube which I assume is suppose to be connected to a sender is cut, and there's a nut, washers & a bolt that clamps the end of the tube down and there's a little oil in there. This is why I was getting constant pressure because it was sealed off!! So what do I do now? Can I just buy a new sender for this gauge anywhere? This pisses me off, at least I haven't had any problems with my car yet.

Hrmm. I would just get a new electronic gauge and sender from autometer for $60.

Because it matched the mechanical fuel pressure gauge?

I suppose you can go to a local race shop, find out what thread the stock oil pressure sensor is, get some s/s lines and run it to the gauge.
BUT, like everyone says, mechanical oil pressure gauges in the car cabin is not a good idea. One bad accident, the oil line is cut, add a little spark=hello plastic surgery to rebuild your melted face. You can get a new electrica oil pressure gauge for 60. If you want a mechanical gauge, you can get an isolator for 100, plus a new mechanical oil pressure gauge. The other bad thing about mechanical gauges is that if someone steals your gauges, the theif will most likely yank it out, and oil (or fluid in the isolator) will spill in the cabin.

I'll just buy a new electrical one. I can't believe they did this and said it was broken.
