63997, 3kgt BOV that comes with the Hahn kit, Is it a BOV or a bypass valve? Posted by etx, Jan-23-04 09:04 AM
Is thier even a differance? I was just at the shop where I got my greddy kit for the Z. I gave him a flange to weld in for the bov and showed him the 3kgt bov that I'll be using for now. He said it's a 'bypass' valve and it has to be plumbed back into the intake or it wont work right. This is bullshit, for sure. He said they would have to route it back into the intake and fab all the shit blah blah. Basically he's tring to get me to buy a new bov from him, or fuck me on putting that one one.
It's too bad this guy that runs the place has this attitude. Once I get my shit from them I don't think i'll be dealing with them again. Let me know if I'm being retarted. I ran 12 psi on that thing, I don't think 2 18g turbos are going to out flow it.

That BOV can be recirculated back into the intake, and needs to be for the 4g63 guys and the 3kgt guys because they use a MAS. We do not and therefore do not have to recirculate. But it doesn't matter if the released air is plumbed back into your intake or not, the BOV works the same way.

Exactly. x( This guy keeps making me second guess myself. I really won't be back to that place after I get my kit.

just tell them you don't want it to bypass and you want it to vent into the air. They must think your a 4g63 or something and don't understand you have a custom kit.

what ^^^^ said, but in simple terms:
It CAN be routed back (hence bypass valve) but it is not required, for us MAP sensor guys

In maximum boost, they call it both a bov and bypass valve.

You can just let it vent into the atmosphere and it will work like it should. Like the ^^^ posts, it's not necessary to hook up a vacuum line back to the intake; that applies to MAF setups, not MAP. For our application, that would just help with emission control.

he's putting the bov on his z not his eclipse not his 4g63 not his 420a but his Z very nice car too.

They actually are two different things, but both function in the same way, but a bypass valve is always routed back into the intake. The 3000t valve, like in the HRC kits, does leak air. Its not a good seal like most actual BOV's. It doesnt really matter that the 3000gt valve leaks, because any leakage will go right back into the intake. I never liked that valve, and went with the Turbo XS bov. But any of you who use the 3000gt valve, take it off,and blow throughg it, you will see what I mean..I just didnt want to have that air leaking out and cause any boost issues..its so nominal though, prob really doesnt matter anyway..

I don't know about the 3kgt valve, but the 1g valve stays open during vaccuum to allow some air to bypass the turbo. It's technically a diverter valve. If you have it vented it can suck unfiltered air into the engine.

i understood that the vacuum line is necessary as it "tells" the valve when to open. when there is vacuum in the intake manifold and pressure in the piping from the turbo the valve "knows" the tb is closed and the valve opens... right?

Lots of good points. As a CBV (compressor bypass valve), it is, by it's nature plumbed back into the intake. A blowoff valve, however, is considered a "boos control device" by the SCCA. There is a continuous big stink on the AutoX forums regarding backdating a 2G CBV to a 1G CBV, as they leak a lot less under boost. I know some people who do not vent their stock CBV into the intake stream, and they use a checkvalve to make sure that the air can only go the proper direction. It solves most of the idle and off idle issues that are assosciated with venting to atmosphere. There is, however, a good reason to vent it back into the intake, pre-turbo... It helps keep the turbo spooled during shifts if it is aimed in the proper direction.

twin turbo 350! hellz yea, what kinda hp numbers will u be lookin at, aand quarter mile ets!?!?!.
as far as my 20g etx, i gotta see what happens after i tune it and see what kinda numbers i can make and see what spoolup is like. i will then look at my options with the 25g or a t60bb with a tubular manny

nm ^^^ i get it now... didn't think of the hose from the bov to the the intake preturbo being a vacuum line so i thought he meant the one going to the intake manifold by bizzy :(

Ok guys, heh. I just droped $6600 on this kit and $500 on gauges and another $500 on the greddy e-01. This means I have ZERO dollars to by a bov. The kit runs 5.6 psi from greddy, I'll probably be running about 6.5 psi. I have this thing laying around so I figure ill use it until something better comes around.
widebodied, people are making 370 rwhp on 5.6 psi with the very conservitave base fuel map supplied by greddy.

god help us all. you are going to be FAST, my friend.
and to think that car stock runs a 13.9 quarter mile. turbo on top of that..!?@! *shivvvers*

Yeop, I'm stoked! :7 I already installed the greddy e-01 and the Defi gauges.
