63700, Throttle Cleaner In Turbo?? Posted by lonnie1977, Jan-16-04 10:11 AM Is is safe to spray Throttle Body/ carb choke cleaner in the input of the turbo to clean. I recently had a problem with the car and got oil all in the turbo and intercooler. I just dont want to damage the oil seals any more than they might be. Thanks | |

The cleaner evaporates so quickly, it won't have time to do any harm. I've actually used that stuff to clean out the bearing section on my turbo(when it was off the car). I sprayed the cleaner into the oil inlet, and let it set, and drain out. Did this numerous times, and it cleas out all the gunk in the bearing section. Made my turbo spin a bit more freely. You always run the risk of then leaking oil seals, if you have a lot of miles on the turbo though..I had under 10,000 on mine when Idid that. But I dont think carb cleaner will damage your turbo, but that's just my view on it. Do it at your own risk. I would def TAKE IT OFF THE CAR if you do it! You should only have to do it on the compressor side to, so no reason to touch the turbine side.. | |
