63656, having a custom tubular manifold made by a friend, check it out Posted by turbo8u, Jan-15-04 01:47 PM
this is the guy iw as telling you guys about...he lives like 2 streets up and has a 271whp supercharged solara that just sounds beautiful!! anyway, he saw my hood open one day and we got to talking. i asked him if he could make a custom tubular manifold for my 16g and he replied "no problem!" so hopefully within the next few months/weeks i'll bring my car in and let them go to work :) look at the QUALITY of this guys craftsmanship!!!! fat fuckin flanges and pro fuckin welds. god im stoked.
best part he said he would show me the gains on a dyno, bwahaha!
edit: granted, these are just headers. its just to show you his work and what he does.

I agree with Uber on this one.....

What is the HP difference with a tubular manifold as opposed to a 'log' style as with the stock HRC and STAR kits?
|
63665, RE: having a custom tubular manifold made by a friend, check it out Posted by Uberingram, Jan-15-04 03:50 PM
hard to say HP numbers but a nicer and smoother spool up peroid would ensue

That looks like a very good TIG welding. I'm no pro, but I have read that the tubular design improves flow over cast or "log" designs. HP gain?...:shrug

this was my manifold but it was stolen by The1bill . but the manifold showed a gain of 30whp on a neon.

SWEET I'll buy just make sure it's custom TUBULAR EQUAL LENGTH!
|
63982, RE: having a custom tubular manifold made by a friend, check it out Posted by turbo8u, Jan-23-04 06:17 AM
tubular equal length...yuuup. as soon as my cars back im bringing it in there for him to take a look at everything

equal length is actually not the best for a turbo car on paper it is but a directional like the one juggalo posted will spool faster becuase it is the shortest path possible for ait the manifold he posted was actualy tested on the phat rida race car and it picked up 25hp and some spool time over a true equal length manifold.
migh be something to think about equal length vers directional or shortest path with a good collector.

Yes and no!
Yes you want directional but no you don't want your exhaust pulses running into eachother, which the common directional will still do.
For us tubular equal length is best here is my reasoning
On equal length, the cylindrical pairs (cylinder 1 and 4, 2 and 3) pulse together which means that even with equal length you have pulses fighting eachother but it's only 2 pulses at a time (not really but I'm not getting into that topic) which is far less than all 4 like the STAR and HRC kit (really HRC's is not as bad but quite restrictive at the turbo inlet - still I prefer this one of the two kits though). You want the runner length all different (almost unnoticeable when you look at them) but then the runners have to be tuned to a particular rpm, otherwise they will still fight run into one another. So the next best thing for the street is tubular directional equal length unless someone here can afford tuned mannies (ya right!). For the most part all equal length tubulars are directional. The NER manny was/is and so was the Rev hard. The next best ones are from fast fab which actually appear to be superior.
RANT
- WHAT THE FUCK - why does the Hahn RaceCraft manifolds use fuckin allen bolts, that is the dumbest fuckin thing I've ever seen in my life:thumbsdown Allens are FAR easier to strip that bolts-WTF-:nono Use regular fuckin bolts. Besides the craptech this is the 1st thing I'd replace
END RANT
Anyway HRC's kit is still the shit.

Because HRC chose #1 - If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.
You can't fit the factory bolts on there (wouldn't want to anyways) so I think HRC went down to Home Depot one day and found out that they only stock metric sizes in a hex head and bolt head and went with the hex cause they fit better.
I got the nice hardened 8mm studs and nuts for a 4g63, which fit perfectly and have yet to break one. This would be AFTER cutting the goddamn stripped hex bolts out with a dremel and impact wrench with 8 attachments (don't ask).

HAHAHA fooker!! I only used 4 tools, a die grinder with cutoff wheel, hammer, chisel and crowbar. Ya it's funny how many bolts are interchangeable:wary
EDIT: And I have PICS! That fuckin bolt got OWNED!

UPDATE:
he told me he would work me out a deal for somewhere between 800-1000 bucks, ouch i know. he just did a twin turbo manifold for a v12 jag actually and that manifold costed over 8K, he's working on Turner Motorsports championship winning M3 and he wont even tell me how much thats costing
when its all said and done, im getting a tubular equal length manifold for my 16/20g _________ 96 talon esi-t san clemente, ca

note the manifold skrilla posted is nickel coated.
fast fabs manifold needs slim radiator fans also.
|

does nickel coating help with anything? other than making it look purty
|
64247, RE: having a custom tubular manifold made by a friend, check it out Posted by MR BLUNT 2gnt, Jan-29-04 05:40 AM
jason no longer coats them. and it didnt really help anything but the looks. i own this manifold. the wastegate neck needed to be closer to the collector on one i received. it wouldnt clear the water neck. i had it relocated. the mani is nice, it needs support from the bottom though. it does need slim line fans on the radiatior and one crazy dp config. you either need to get rid of the ac or get a very tight radius bend to make it work w/ the dp. i had to bend my ac line slightly to keep it away from the heat. i plan on having it ceremic coated during the winter time, it is a nice mani. the above one here looks pretty tight. i'd be interested to see how well it fits w/ everything in the bay. ie starter and whatnot. keep us posted.
