63584, Dumb ?? Boost Gauge with Nitrous?
Posted by elude, Jan-14-04 03:02 PM
Okay it might seem dumb, but i was thinking about this.. Is it possible to hook up a autometer boost gauge with my nitrous set up. The vacuum side of the gauge could be a normal vacuum gauge, and is it possible to hook up the PRESS side to a nitrous pressure line (like where a regular nitrous gauge is connected). I think it would be cool to have it. Heh, damn video games always refer to Boost as n2o.. hah, well let me know guys.. thanks..

regular vacuum >> << to nitrous?

You cannot hook up a pressure gauge to measure engine vaccumm and bottle pressure at the same time and if you did hook up a boost gauge to your n20 line it would read way past the 30 psi mark...more like 900 psi. There was a way to make a N20 purge BOV

Don't try this. The gauge will pop.

yeah, dont do it, nitrous pressure gauges go into the thousands of pounds per square inch...not just 30 or so. it will blow. and the purge is not a bov, but a purge, a solenoid and line used to purge or clear the lines of liquid nitrous oxide before the initial injection begins. a bov merely release pressure at a certain preset boost level in order to prevent engine damage from too much boost. a purge is something completely different, and is nowhere closely related to a bov.

Well I don't know the details of it but....you hook up another solenoid to your N20 line inline with your purge valve. So the idea is that when you shift, you let your foot of the gas and stop spraying, it'll close your N20 solenoid and the other solenoid will open and purge. Then you'll get into gear and resume spraying. It's not really a BOV and it really has no performance affect cuz the idea of purging is to clear the lines of air BEFORE you squeeze. But purging is almost as fun as squeezing..it's like flexin your muscle and punkin someone

so how many solenoids would i need? i already have two for my wet system, n2o and fuel, then another for purge..

hmm, would it be possible to have a switch for my microswitch for purge and spray? like a rocker switch for when its on the left side for example it would purge when i floored it, then if i switched it to the right side it would spray the actual nitrous system? i could also keep my seperate purge button.. good idea guys? or how would i do it?

Yes indeed! there is a very big diffrence between 5-15psi boost pressure and 900-1100psi bottle pressure!!!!!!
