Where do you guys gap your spark plugs at for turbocharging? Which kind of spark plugs and what brand seems to work better for you all? It's been a while since I've been on this forum. Please refresh my memory. I had my car in storage for over a year now and haven't been up to date with you guys but now after the rebuilt. I'm back again just need to do some finishing touches. Any info. would be a life saver for me. As of now I'm being more cautious. Thank you all.

I think everyone (or most everyone) uses the ngk-bkr7e11 (the one rnage colder than stock) and i believe the gap is 0.44 Try searching because i know this has been answered many times before. Someone else help if i am wrong.

Have been now for the last 14,000 miles.... at 19psi. So I don't wanna hear anything about them being wrong... haha Because they work....

In forced induction since it generates a tremendous amount of heat, you want to transfer as much heat out of the cylinder as possible before you start the next compression stroke. Why? Because if you have an excess of heat during the compression stroke you are more like to have preignition which you don't want. This is why you want a colder range spark plug. It exposes less surface area of the insulator nose to combustion gases.

So anyway, you would use 1 heat range colder than stock spark plug as a precaution.

HAving turbo and cold 7 range plugs, I gap at the same sort of gaps the 4g63 guys use. About .030-.032. If I ever run higher boost(>20psi), I'd go as low as .028 probably.

The BKR7E-11 already come pregagged at .044... I bought the BKR7E and gapped them at .033 because the .044 was causing misfire like no end...

.03 works well, and those NGK plugs are gapped to .05 from the factory. Always check your gap.

I use NGK 7E-11, gapped to .035 (since I got upgraded ignition.)

if your plugs are gapped large.. say .044 running 15lbs of boost, can your plugs look too hot? might almost look like the car is running lean? ive been playing with some slight misfiring. i checked my plugs and they were at .044, they were somewhat white but don't look like detonation, they look like they are really hot. ive read that hot plugs could be caused by improper gap. so.. again, would a gap of .010 too high (compared to what everyone else runs) cause the plugs to look white and cause the car to missfire?

I think .044" (which is n/a gapping) is too big for turbo'd cars. With the increased manifold pressure, you'll want to close that gap to at least between .035-.038 inch. If you don't have an aftermarket ignition, you might want to even try a gapping between .032-.035" to achieve a stronger spark. That "whitish" residue on your plugs is a pretty indication of a lean condition.

just cause they are somewhat white doesn't indicate a lean condition. the gap could be too far out of wack causing the plugs to overheat..

i dont mean for you to take offense.. but seriously.. some people don't know all the answers thus shouldn't speak. those who state the problem might not really know.

No offense taken. I was just simply offering my opinion base on things I've tried, read, or heard. I apologize if I come across as a Mr. "know it all." If anything, I consider myself a "newbie" at all of this. I'll be more careful about how I word things. Sorry if I offend anyone.

BKR7E - Gapped .035 from NGK factory for TURBO cars
BKR7E11 - .044 from from NGK factory for NA cars

I run between .035-.038 gaps. If you accidentally buy BKR7E-11's you must close the gap.
