okay, i dont like the looks of the 90* black silicone elbow off the compressor so:
Do you think a regular red silicone elbow from somplace like RRE would stand up to the heat of a ceramic coated manifold( radiated heat would be approx. 70*), possibly even with a heatsheild? or how about an aluminum 90* elbow welded onto the compressor? or this, clocking the compressor to point downward and customizng the wastegate and piping to work with that.

I've also contemplated on this situation, too. I've had the HRC elbow blew out on me once due to it drying up from the exhaust heat and high boost. Personally, I'd recommend clocking the turbo to point down and modify your i/c pipe routing--which is what I plan to do sometimes this winter. It will be a much cleaner looking setup.
If you opt to go with welding on an elbow to the compressor outlet, then it's on there, so you'd be stuck with the elbow pointing to which ever direction. And if you ever change your mind with that setup or decide to change the turbo, it'd be hard to sell the turbo like that. Plus, for the price of a new silicone elbow, have a threaded spacer or nut tack welded to the turbo so that you could mount the wastegate actuator, once the turbo has been clocked--free if you know anyone that has a MIG welder. Just my .02 :-)

Actually you'd need a TIG welder, not a MIG.... You need a TIG to weld Aluminum.... :thumbsup

Actually, that's not true at all. I weld Aluminum all day long with MIG.
Tim- I got an elbow at www.TurboHoses.com. Use t-bolt clamps and it won't come off.

I need a new elbow too. It's still rockin the radiator hose, heh. What size is that elbow? 2.25 inches? I just want to be sure, so I don't order the wrong one.

I bought a silicone elbow from http://www.extrememotorsports.com/g@cat/hoses.htm I am not sure about the size but it is a 7 layer silicone elbow. Very strong.
