6309, How much boost on your blown motor? Posted by phrenzy, Jun-13-01 04:36 AM
MWC made a very good point that I felt needed a thread. For those of you who have blown a motor under boost, what boost pressure were you at when it blew?
'99 Eclipse GS My dad: "So that thing make your car faster by allowing exhaust gas to exit faster...?" Me: "Um, no dad...The exhaust gas makes this little thing spin, which on the other side here compresses the intake air"

I closed my wastegate and hit well over 15PSI once (ONCE!). Didn't hurt anything.
Wyatt did the same thing, hit 20+ PSI and cracked a coupla pistons.
MWC cratered at 22PSI.
rsXboy trashed his at 7PSI. If i remember correctly, he said his turbo and manifold were glowing red when he stopped.
99GSBBTurbo gave out at 9(?)PSI, but it was likely a problem unrelated to the turbo. (valves, it seems....)
Anthony blew his headgasket at 8PSI
there's been others... But these are the ones i can specifically remember. All internal failures in these vehicles are related to two things: Too much boost, or too little fuel. Either one can do us in.

10psi with 12psi spikes
Don't forget DETONATION we have to retard timing at high RPMs... this is CRUCIAL!
I am almost starting to think that Ignition should come BEFORE buying a SAFC!

6312, Are you talking about Manek(Anthony)... Posted by Skrilla, Jun-17-01 11:30 AM
...'cause he actually cracked 3 of his pistons and the builder(who I refered him too) told me he was essentally running pressurized on 2 cylinder with severe compression loss in 2(like FIFTEY 50 I think) and 150 in one of the other 2.

Yes i was. i couldn't remember what he was going by on the board, as he hasn't posted in a while. Last i had heard, the only issue he'd had was a blown headgasket. Guess i missed that one.
