62946, SAFC or E-MANAGE???
Posted by extreme97nt, Jan-03-04 02:08 AM
OK I am going to need some kind of way to tun my idle because of my stage 2 cams. I was wondering if I am better off going with the safc of e-manage. I am running the 8 injector setup and I figured I could use the e-manage to take care of both. Concidering they are around the same price which do you think would be the better rout.

what problems are you having with your idle?

you should be able to do it with the 8 injector setup and the stage 2 cams

if i was choosing safc wouldn't be a choice it would be between the mega squirt and a emanage.

The idle is really rough and I think the ecu is dumping to much fuel which makes it stall sometimes. Although it is getting better over time.

I don't wanna jack this post...but can you use the e-manage as an EIC?

yes the emanage can be used as the eic. However I already have the eic and just need off boost tuning it looks like. Thats why I was looking in to the e-manage because I can use it to replace the eic and tune the car.

You need to look at how Vinnie actually implemented his supplementary injectors on his emanage. He did have to do a few things to get it to work properly (resistors, etc). Also, since you already have the EIC I really think it's just waste replacing it with an emanage. You're running into the problem of the car running poorly at idle correct? If you are that concerned about it adjust the throttle plate stop screw so that the plate is still open a hair enough to keep the idle up. It should keep the car from dying when you let off the gas coming to a stop. There is also the option of drilling small holes in the TP so that enough air can through to even up the air/fuel mixture.

Opeing up the throttle body makes sense. However, wouldent the iac just close more to compensate?

Actually no. Remember when you do that that you are actually showing more than 0% throttle open. Think of it as if you had your foot on the gas pedal just a smidge, in nuetral, not moving. The IAC isn't going to close so that the car still thinks it in idle. It will recognize that the TP is open and adjust the fuel to proper cell in the map accordingly. Also remember you only pull crap for vacuum when you have the throttle plate closed. Once you open it up a LITTLE bit it gets better. Seeing about 1% open gives it much more room to pull air through and balances out the bad idle. Just remember when you start with small adjustments on the throttle stop screw. You want just enough to balance out the idle but not too much that you end up with a high surging idle.

On a side note, the e-manage has a engine anti-stall setting that I have yet to explore. I think I may play around with that to see what it can do/help. Though it will have to wait till I get back.

So, in your case I wouldn't buy anything until you've exhausted all possible means with what you have.
