Well I did it to try and keep the heat from going directly to my cf hood. I has baked my hood in the past and I dont want it to do it to this one. And I looks better then a bunch of rusty looking manifold and turbo. I Will eventually get them ceramic coated as well. but until then this will have to do.

Looks good what did you do to cut/make/prep the sheet metal. With all my metal fab I've been using a table saw with metal cutting blade or my circular pneumatic cutting wheel. Did you polish i for that shine?

Looks really nice. What did you connect the shield to?

well I did all the cutting with a plasma cutter and then bent the round part for the turbo by hand. As for mounting, I made threaded sleeves and welded them to the manifold and then bolted the shield to it.

Its helped quite a bit. Remember most heat can be reflected.

I could use one... Cover just the exhaust housing? Or does it cover the manifold as well?

That's why you wire your AC fan to be on whenever the main radiator fan is on... that way the AC fan actually helps distribute the heat and stop it from melting shit like happened to you...

Not to get of track here, but has anyone here done the mod to have the a/c fan kick on with the radiator fan? I looked at the diagram on ClubDSM for the turbo models, but they have different relay configurations.

i posted a write up on it on the turbo section. search like "AC fan mod". pretty easy cause your just connecting one area of the ac fuse "cell" to another, and in between that, you put the switch in between the long wires that run to the cabin.

mine doesn't kick on with the radiator, but its a manual switch

The fan would have done nothing but hack the radiator even worse.
It was the close proximity to the turbo that did that. Freaking scary shit that was...;(

You must have the turbo pretty darn close to the fan.... but regardless, if the fan was running it may well have saved the fan... the air flowing out of the fan WOULD have helped disperse the heat...

I have the AC fan mod on my Eclipse, and the difference in underhood temperatures is amazing.... since I installed the fan mod the temps underhood dropped dramatically....

what thickness of material are you using?

is the melting radiator issue due to the star dp design? i've never heard of this before?

were are you guys getting mounting points for these? Could you post pics of were the bolts that hold the heatshield?

maybe so... but my car spends more time on the highway then on the steet, So the fan rarely comes on. Even then when I woul TT it I sometimes would turn on the AC fan... I made a heat shield for the new fan and so far its looking ok, I traded that one for some new ones with out my heat shield on the fan...its melting again. Im taking it out...no use un taking a risk with the aluminum radiator.

Oh an notice that the fan does not have the stock metal heatshield... yes we have them from the factory...why? Think about it. I think that also had a lot to do with the melting.

True, mine has the factory metal heatshield on the fan so that helps me out I'm sure... You could slip a ball card down between my turbine housing and the metal shield on the AC fan on my car, thats about it.... and no problems for me.... :shrug

But then I do also have extremely low EGT's and underhood temps... :thumbsup

My conclusion... Star's precision machined turbo to manifold setup. A gasket is defenitely a thing I have to look into. I guess sice the shield extends past that and blocks any direct leaks onto the fan now its helped. I looked at the inside of my manifold today...yes it shoes signs of a leak...even with Studs. WTF:thumbsdown

its is only like 1/16" stainless.
