well people, she runs. only one problem:

she wont go into boost!

i have no idea what to do. she is blowing off, and i think i can hear the turbo spool over my major exhaust leak on the DP.

options? vaccume leak, busted boost gauge?

HELP!

You did remeber to tighten all the clamps on all the IC pipes right?

Yeah you would feel the boost kick in. You have a vac leak, or your wastegate is stuck open.

well, the car is not drivable yet so i wont be able to feel the boost per se. (it is still up on jacks w/o bumper and wheels.)

i just retightened all of the clamps on the intercooler.

idle is appx 17 in-hg.

boost gauge when i rev it goes up to 0, then no more.

i am going to try putting some zip ties on the tee for the boost guage to eliminate that as a leak. for the boost guage i tapped into that small flexable vac line which was in the middle of the hard vac line which goes to the black thingy up front (EGR?). is that an acceptable boost source?

hehe.. you won't see over 0 psi while just revving it. you need some sort of load (ie driving) to see boost. you're just fine.

If I were you I would disconnect that egr solenoid vac line and attach the boost gauge line directly to the intake manifold where the egr var line was. You don't want your egr system opening up.

If your not in gear, or not driving and you rev it you should see the boost gauge down down to about 23 in/hg vac. Once you take it for a spin the turbo will spool up.

Even if he holds the gas in he won't see boost. I'm still finishing up on my turbo kit and haven't gotten pipes yet. But im pretty sure if he holds it at around 5k he'll start to see boost right?:shrug

no load = no boost.

Some very small turbos can build boost free revving, but you're not gonna see anything on the gauge with a 16G or larger.

what is this business? wont that throw a CEL? is the egr system no longer useful now? if it wont effect anything performance wise and wont throw a CEL, then i will definately use that vac source.

Are you guys serious?
I had my turbo kit in...but I never unhooked my EGR.
Should I?
what and why I have to unhook it?
I thought the EGR will save more gass or something.

If you're looking to save gas, you shouldn't have gotten a turbo kit! Actually, ever since I installed my kit, my gas mileage has gone up! Scary... I've got my EGR and EVAP bypassed and I get a CEL for those. I have my EVAP setup bypassed into a catch can and the EGR, well, that's a whole nother ball park. I'm thinking of leaving the solenoid connected so I don't throw a CEL, but just blocking off the EGR compeltely.

unless there is a need to disable it, don't, unless you don't mind a cel. it's not a requirement.

the EGR system is, in a word, useless. all its good for is getting really hot and burning through important wires, causing them to ground out, and stick you on the side of the road. or so ive heard. :-)
