62485, Walbro 255 enough? Posted by HiOnPSI, Dec-21-03 04:03 AM
Since my pump is out and i really don't want to go back to an inline, i was wondering if using the Walbro 255 intank (hi-pres) is enough fuel for my 420cc's using a 4:1 pressure ratio. If so, i'm going to that instead of that loud piece of shit HRC/accel pump.

Yeah, but i'm running insanely high fuel pressures. Even now. That's the only thing that concerns me.

If it's the 255 high pressure model, I'd feel alright to about 80-90 psi. Over that, I'd be compelled to get a better fuel pump or a secondary inline one.

I've made 550 to the wheels with a walboro high pressure.

You made 550 to the wheels in a 2GNT? Let's see some sheets.
I don't think he was using just the stock pump - sounds like he had the HRC accel in-line in there too.
Where did you get your 255 Walbro, and what do they cost. I am getting a little sick of the accel in-line myself and I am interested in other fuel options.

bwah-hahah. Yes, I ran the Accel inline included w/ the HRC kit until it went out on me last month. Teh car still starts and runs fine on the stock pump, but i haven't driven it out of the driveway since the day that pump went out. I took the precautions, checked all connectiosn and tested voltages, it is definitely the pump that went out. I am going to drive it tonight, not boosted, as the fuel pressure still rises accordingly and the car is not leaning out. It just shut up. It was a very strange day. The day my car idled without making a funny ass annoying noise.
My plan was to eliminate the Accel altogether, and run simply the Walbro 255 hi-pres w/ my 40lb injectors (thanks Tim) turning the Craptech down to 4:1, if it will even do it (Yes, I said craptech). Mike @ Cartech said it is possible. We'll just see about that. All being correct, at 1.2 bar, i should be around 92psi of fuel pressure. (That's @ 20psi fuel idle base). The plan is to run approx 20psi on race fuel, and that's where I am most concerned. Sometimes, I feel as if i should just run 550's and a 1:1.
I know the Accel is rated to 125psi, and this part is "teh funny". I do not have a cockpit fuel gauge, w/ my 310 injectors, i was running a 32psi idle base, and at most approx. 1 to 1.1 bar. (15-16psi). Do the math, and on the current 12:1 HRC setup, that's over 200psi. I absolutely do not believe that it came even close to it, and @ 15psi and 110 octane, my EGTs were settled in at 875C (uhh...Yeah, like 1590 or 1600F). I can name a few more people who are doing the same thing.
In conclusion, I don't want to buy a pump such as the Walbro and then end up having to replace the inline to ensure decent fuel pressure.

I agree. It should be enough to supply the fuel pressure needed for the 440cc's. If for some reason it's not enough, could also switch to a higher ratio fmu disk--if you have that version. I just don't think it's safe to run a fuel pressure higher than 80-90psi.

Ah, you posted at the same time I did. I plan on using a 4:1 ratio initially. Probably w/ the Cartech, maybe with a SFMU. Haven't decided yet, it will all depend on how the Cartech works with that. The Cartech should do better, at least I think, with a lower fuel pressure ratio. that leaves less room for error.

someone really needs to make a cheap n easy way for you guys to get better fuel set ups.. these fmus and junk just arent good..
yall need a hondata type program for you guys the mitsudata ahah
dino can make it and make millions
all i got to mess with is a 255lph 550s and the hondata.. which is a tiny blue box
