Well from what I have heard, from people who have run both, is that they both max out heat soak wise, pretty close to each other. I would say the Starion is just a bit better to go with, may even flow just a bit more CFM with less pressure drop over the SMIC. I'm running 13 psi with a S16G, and the 1st gen SMIC is getting heat soaked in warm weather, esp on long or track runs..I would say this is the max limit for the 1st gen SMIC. Others have said the Starion heat soaks around 13-14 psi on the S16G also...soo...

Ok, Dumb question but how do you know when heat soak occurs? Do you lose power?
Another thing... So a starion with a 16G and around 16psi probably wouldnt work?? or would it?? :shrug
Thanks guys ~Luke

You can easily tell if your Ic is heat soaked by just feeling the inlet, and outlet pipes(carefully of course). The outlet pipe should be noticably cooler to the touch than the inlet. If they are about the same temp, then the IC is heat soaked. You can also feel the IC itself. The outlet side if it should be cooler too. Basically when the IC is heatsoaked, the IC is not really cooling the air charge at all, or very little. 16 PSI on the Starion is really maxing it out, but you may be able to get away with it, if you dont do any long full boosted runs, or many 1/4 mile track runs all in a row.. I would be the most concerned in very warm weather...

i think in this case it comes down to looks...i was originally going to use the smic, but i went with the fmic for the looks...i still think it should cool a little better because it will be smack in the front instead of hidden behind the bumper...but i mainly got it for the looks doug

run a 1G SMIC. more specifically, buy my old 1G SMIC. you know you want to.
