62090, Some wierd abnormal problems... Posted by gilee_8, Dec-12-03 12:39 PM
Now it's been 1 month after I been boosting. Let me say the abnormal issues that occurs to me (abnormal to me atleast)
1) When boosting hard after a while, oil comes out from the hose after the PCV (i know this is normal) But those oil contain "milky" things (doesn't look like oil, but I am sure it is oil but with milky liquid in it, what's up? =>I have no catch can, but I unplugged the Hose after the PCV to the intake Manifold, and just route that hose after the PCV to the side of the engine.
2) Ever since I finished my custom turbo kit, my BOV is making funny Blow Off Noises when it open after boost. I have the HKS SS BOV. And I thought it should make: PUSSSss... from high to low (once)... but mine is like: Poooooo(high)...Poooo(lower)...Poo(low) What's up with that either? =>Now I am using the vaccum line from the back of intake to the Boost gauge, split to BOV and split to the EGR. then a seperate vaccum source for the SFMU.
Recent Check Up: Compression Test: 202-195-191-200 and I changed all value cover gaskets with no oil in spark plug now.
The two symtoms above its been there since I start boosting, but first I thought they are normal, but recently I read a few post concern them, and they said about "BOV signal vaccum hose is split is bad" and "head gasket is fucked"..... Can they be the cause?
Thanks for any input! Gil:love :thumbsup

you may need a new headgasket...that could be water in your oil.
i thought super sequencial BOVs make that sort of sound. try getting a single vac line to your BOV without so many tees...all of those tees (3?) could be weakening the signal.

Yeah the bov makes that sound.is it tapering off??

the BOV noise your hearing is compressor surge...you need to get a single lone source for the BOV...you can and will cause turbo damage after time....

THanks guys.. ok, so I should change the BOV to alone Vaccum source directly from the back of the intake manifold right? How bout my SFMU? Can I do this? (I only have two source of vaccum at the back of intake)
1st) Intake Manifold directly to BOV 2nd) Intake Manifold to (TEE) SFMU, Boost Gauge, EGR
Is the above vaccum source good?
ALso, about the headgasket you guys said it's bad, that's what I am thinking, but then my compression test comes out REALLY good thou.??? 202-195-191-202 (something like that)

if possible...you would want EVERYTHING to have its own, dedicated Vac source. the SFMU and BOV are your two most important items that need a vac source to operate properly. id get the BOV its onw Vac source somehow. that should solve your problem. if it doesnt, i dunno much about the HKS BOV's, but see if they have a type of adjustment( my TurboXS RFL has washers to add/remove, or a spring you can cut shorter) and make it where the BOV opens up easier. it sounds like you may not be running enough boost to open the BOV properly all the way, so you get a "flutter" or turkey gobble sound. BUT, some super sequential BOV's are SUPPOSED to sound like that.

Thanks alot... I will give my BOV a seperate Vaccum Source. For the milky oil issues.... what can I do to be sure? As I said, compression number is good, can it be the headgasket? THanks. Gil
