last night i ran my bitch ragged :( was just out doin some spirited driving with a friend who had never been in a boosted 420a, i just put on my ML so i wanted to see how she liked it....so i'm out boostin 9 psi high boost and start smellin some burnin coolant, oh shit....yea and the idle is kinda grobbly out of the muffler, not as strong as it was before. i know i had to have lost like all my compression in one cylinder because theres a shit load of oil on my engine (more than likely blow by) no CEL last night though. but i get in my car today and 5 mins of driving, CEL....i didnt have time to scan it to see what it was, PDA is busted :( so i dont know what the CEL is for (hopefully ML related) so my piston rings on my 4th cylinder are pwn3d i think if im gettin that much blow by. i had a leaky headgasket anyway (dont we all) and so i need some help (SOCAL GUYS) replacing that. i know i can do it myself but it will just take me longer and with the holidays coming up i dont nearly have the time. i'm more than impressed by my baby though i mean, 20 some odd thousand boosted miles and 136k and all that im worried about is a factory defect headgasket leak

so SOCAL guys, please help me....with even one guys helps we can knock it out in a day. i have all power tools, lifts, pullers, jacks, specialized tools, EVERYthing we will need

so who can help me....? thinking about doing it possibly this weekend (DEC 6,7, or 8th) so reply here with a number i can get ahold of you at and we'll go from there, please...it would really save my ass

tell u up front that you probably cracked a piston trust me on this. ive done it on stock pistons plenty of times.don't forget to resurface the head.

What exactly do you plan to do? I mean, the labor you can knock out in a day, but if you need machine work, order parts, etc. It's going to take weeks if not a month or two.

Do you have a built engine sitting around or something?

well first off i need to rip it apart to see wtf exactly is wrong it then go from there, parts ordering is no problem, they take no time (hookup with a good mechanic who gets discounts on parts, got me a flywheel bolt on a sunday...nuff said) i wanted to throw in a block, oil pump, water pump, etc... basically, a rebuild. not sure whether im going to get a FTY block or what, this is gunna be a big headache i can see it right now ;(

p.s- i have a brand new head at my house so i dont need to resurface the one i have now, i'm not going to use it.

p.s.s- if worse comes to worse i'll find a stock block with pistons, etc and put it in with a new headgasket and see how it does

p.s.s.s- my car still drives :shrug, so i don't know what to think

well i know i probly cracked a piston but i drove her to work today and she was fine (blow by like no other though) i think it might just be the headgasket because theres a shit load of oil in my coolant and coolant in my oil as well....BAH, i knew this shit was gunna happen.

Major blowby happens with cracked pistons.
Oil mixing happens with blown HG's. You did both.

Buy an FTY. There's a lot more to ordering parts than you realize. Even if I had free reign of a Mitsu Dealership, I couldn't get all the parts in a week.

When you get the FTY, we'll help you drop that in.

If you attempt something this weekend, youll get the head off and realize you should have pulled the whole engine.

what 'parts' are u talking about....?

headgasket
water pump
oil pump
head studs
timing belt
tensioner
idler pulley
etc etc

you can't get all that in a week? i dont get half my parts from mitsu dealerships anyway

why don't i just pull the head off, drop the pan, replace the cracked piston with a stocker one and drive until i get the FTY block?

edit: NO smoke is coming out of the exhaust, car boosts 4psi fine, blow by was because the breather tube was stolen a while back and i had to make one, isnt a perfect fit i found out. so might just be my hg afterall!!!! woo fuckin hoo

sorry, i really dont know WHAT to think anymore, well not until i do a compression test that is. i say we just replace the headgasket this weekend and see how it goes. what do you think? skrilla said he could help me, he actually just blew his motor too. he's gunna let me know sunday when he gets back in town, im helpin him throw in his block in exchange for him helping me :thumbsup, skrilla fuckin rules
