6165, Give me install tips!!! Posted by guest, Jun-11-01 09:59 AM
Does anyone have any tips that they can give me before the install this saturday. I know some of you have learned a few things you would do differently the second time.

Have everything ready, so your not making unneeded trips to the parts stores. Buy some oil, and band-aids:) Most importantly keep cold refreshments on hand and the # to the local pizza joint by the phone! Be patient cuz your gonna cuss up a storm but, have fun with it...its great experience! later.

Well I dont know the difference between a 1 1/16" deep socket and an oil sender removal socket but they must be damn simular cause the deep socket worked great for me. Got it at the local pepboys. If MWC is helping it should go smoothly (as you know he has a few installs under the belt). Stan2gnt Stan2va@aol.com 95 Talon 420A-Turbo Former and future nitrous user

Don't expect to get it done in one day. Be prepaired to finish it the next day. Don't rush anything. But if MWC is helping...I'm sure you will get it done in one day:-)

Yeah I plan on learning a few things from MWC. He really knows what he is doing. I am lucky to have him helping me out! BTW I got a sending unit socket. It looks a bit different than a normal socket.

Haha make sure you get the right length man. I bought a short one and then realized I need a gigantic size one that was like 5 inches (sounds nasty doesn't it :P ) . Got it Kragen also. Hmm make sure you have a place to put all your tools, you'll be guessing a lot. hardest part will probably be the exhuast manifold also, at least that was what took me so long. Haha it took me like 4 days of work on and off to finish mine too. Make sure you have your car in a safe spot, like in a garage also. Be patient too. haha I like that one about bandaids! It's true man I tore my hands up and cut a chunk of meat off of my hand when I cut it on a hose clamp.

LAST EDITED ON 13-Jun-01 AT 04:22 AM (PST)If you haven't already gotten it, you will need teflon for the different fittings, and NOT the tape stuff you would use for home plumbing... you have to get the paste made for this type of stuff.
While you down there you may want to replace your belts if it has been a while since you last did this.
Make sure you have new spark plugs that are 1 heat range colder than stock (for NGK you will need BKR7E-11 gapped to .035", stock number 1283).
Make sure you have about a 1/4 tank of gas before the install if you are replacing the intank fuel pump. Not necessary, just helps to keep the gas where it belongs...
Hope this helps a little.
