Ok, my car is being weird (it's a long story), but long story short it's throwing the code:

Bank #1 - o2 Sensor Failure

K, so the o2 sensor is bad, just replace it right? You ask, why are you posting this?

I have 2 options:

1) Spend $100 and replace the o2 sensor.

2) Get the PLX Devices wideband o2 which is what i really want. (www.plxdevices.com)

What i would like to avoid is buying a new stock o2 sensor when i am going to get wideband anyways. Thus, wasting my money on getting a stock sensor.

However, I need to know how the system works. I have two o2 sensors, one on the downpipe (bank 1) and one after the cat (bank 2). When I read a thread on another forum, I got confused about if having one or two o2 sensors would cause problems or not.

One of the main problems that I am having is my ECU randomly cutting out. It's almost like it shorts out for a short second but them comes right back on. Thus my engine will cutout and then turn back on while i am driving. Could this ECU failure be caused by a faulty o2 sensor? The car runs great, idles fine, and has power when you push the pedal. It's just that the ECU cuts out so randomly, it's so weird and i don't even know where to start diagnosing the problem. All i know is that my CEL is on but hasn't been until yesterday when the cutting out problem started getting worse. When it would only cutout about once a day, now it cuts every like 5-10 mins.

At first, i was thinking bad ECU, but I have come to the conclusion that either an ECU works or does not work at all. Am i right?

I know everything is running great in the motor and i am confident that the problems that i am currently experiencing is strictly electrical (relay, sensor, or ecu).

you need to get a new stock o2 sensor, plain and simple
you need the upstream o2, you dont need the downstream
without the upstream you run base maps,etc..

you cannot just replace it with a wideband because its just not the same, signal voltate will be different and it wont work, and your cars problems are caused by the bad o2.

dont skimp get a OEM replacement.
all others SUCK ie bosch,etc..

Not sure about the PLX, but the Tech-Edge WBo2 has a 0-1v output to simulate a stock o2 signal (among other inputs/outputs). I don't use it personally, but I've heard positive things form other Tech-Edge owners about it. You just tie in the ecu side harness to the output of the wbo2. If you think your sensor is causing your ecu problem, just unplug the sensor and see if the problem goes away. If not, you've got other problems. I would get that problem fixed before doing anything else though.
