Ok, I have posted something about this before. I really don't like the noise I hear when I release the throttle above 12 psi. Along with the woosh, I get a airhorn type sound. Now I don't know if this is how its supposed to sound or not. I really think its a little compressor surge, but I'm not sure because I don't know exactly what compressor surge sounds like. I called the tech guy at turboxs and he said my turbo is not going to push more air than the bov can vent, yeah thanks captian obvious! I have a large enough vac signal line running to it, the biggest bottle neck in the system is the fitting on the top of the BOV. When I let off the throttle slowly it dosen't do it, it will open and vent fine with no weird noises. If I release the throttle quickly I get the weird air horn noise. This leads me to believe the thing is not opening quickly enough.

Any ideas guys? :shrug I'm getting ready to get another BOV just to see if it works better, I don't want any premature wear on my turbo.

Have you tried adjusting the spring? I know the spring adjustment is for lower/higher boost - like more boost needs more washers....but I'm just thinking that it might be worth trying to add/remove washers since it's the only thing that you can really adjust on it.

all i know of turboXS bovs is that they sometimes get stuck because of "road salt" and shit. i knew 2 guys with WRXs that had theirs replaced because it fucked up.

I oiled the piston inside of it, and the spring is loose to the point where it will open under ~22 hg vac. The thing I don't understand is why does it do it when I let off the throttle quickly, but if i do it slowly it dosen't make the noise. It makes me think the thing isn't opening fast enough.

you'd know if u had compressor surge.... it skitters, its a very distinct sound

having revved my engine while watching the RFL bov(i have the same exact noise)...what is happening is that the last of the air that is being vented while the BOV is closing- creating a smaller space for the air to escape...hence causing the whistle..when your letting off the throttle slower, the BOV takes more time to close, allowing all the air to escape before it whistles....

I have been telling myself it's ok, its not killing my turbo. I just need some kind of justification to where that noise is coming from.

hehe doh, beat me to it. i was worried about the same thing when i first got mine. just watch it while you rev by pulling the throttle cable.

Yeah, when I do that I can see it open a little because the extra vac. Matt too a look at it when I was in GR and said it looks a little loose but should be ok. I figure its better to have it loose than too tight, and if it starts leakin I'll throw some washers in.
