6070, fuel pumps question Posted by 95ESi, Jun-08-01 08:45 AM
Is something wrong with one of my pumps??
I have a walbro intank and an inline pump...lately it's makeing lots of noise....anyways...so I crawl under the right rear wheel and feel around and to my surprise, the fuel hoses running from the pumps are hot?!?
Is this normal? I don't think fuel is supposed to be boiling coming from the fuel tank into the engine....

How long was the car running?
Fuel pumps do generate a good bit of heat. The only thing that cools them is the flow of fluid through them. If you had been runnign the car for an extended amount of time and were low on gas, it's possible that it wasn't flowing enough gas to properly cool it.

The car usually runs for 30mins to 45mins...normal daily commute...
It's just making more noise that it did day one, that's why I noticed the fuel lines burning...people tell me it shouldn't be that hot...
On the new 330ci BMWs, it's a well known problem that their fuel gets heated up too much (and their engine light goes on to inform them of hot fuel)....

Maybe running an accel inline pump and a walbro 255 low pressure pump is overkill? The inline pump is restricting the walbro causing it to work harder and overheat??
