Well 4 months and 10,000 miles ago I built my motor...

Wiseco 8.5:1 pistons and stock rods... Ran the first 1000 miles at 10psi, then 12 for the next 1000, then spent the last 3 months at 15-17psi... (Ran her at 19psi last week too.... :7)

And she's still running perfectly... :thumbsup Just wanted to let you all know.... still running my DSM 450CC injectors off the stock ECU also... with some small adjustments from the SAFC...

Life is good...

It feels great...

I've got my dual stage boost controller installed now also... it's pretty cool driving it at 10psi, then hitting the switch and instantly hitting 17psi.. feels like nitrous kicking in... haha.

Hmmm, nitrous... thats the next project....:thumbsup

I think the previous record for stock rods and upgraded pistons was 13-14 psi. Thats great that they are still holding at 15-17 psi. This really strikes a chord with me because I'm such a cheap-ass.

as with me!!...i feel that if i did this (just pistons) i would be able to get away without getting bearings which would also save some money and room for screw up....just a thought...but id probably only be running 10psi and this sounds good enough for me to do that....

Yeah the stock rods are holding great.

I ran the motor for two days last week at 19 psi also... I'd run it that high all the time, but my BOV is leaking quite a bit.... haha, it's a modified 2G DSM BOV...

There are some details to using the rods and pistons the way I did... It's a reverse floating wrist pin setup... (You dont wanna know).
The only bad side to it is a lot of piston slap when cold... but this goes once it is warmed up. Stock bore could explain this also, but my bores were fine so no need to over-bore at the time. Yeah I got the Wiseco's in stock bore... ;)

Also, I did replace my rod bearings about a month after the rebuild, used Clevitte 77 bearings... :thumbsup

I'm not sure if I would recommend anyone uses the stock rods the way I did... haha, I'm just a cheap bastard and like taking risks and doing things different... haha

But remember the stock rods are forged... although powdered forged, not billet forged.

Well you cheap ass should get rid on the 2g bov imo. Its crap. Other than that congrats on the set up. :)

Hello Mr. 12's . How are you today ?

Im also on forged pistons and stock rods. (8.8:1 I can't rember the brand of my pistons...mrp or msr something like that). What kind of compression #'s do you have? I think I fucked up when I installed my TTI racing headgaset, by installing it at all. My compression is 160 across all 4. :(. I was hopeing for like 180-190.

Howdy,

I'm gonna do a compression test today tocheck things out so I'll let you know...

I used 8.5:1 pistons along with the stock MLS head gasket.

Just did a compression check today when I changed my plugs.

160psi across the board...
Time to up the boost me thinks.

rxr what compresion pistons did you put in 8.5:1?

if you add those to a TTI gasket you really have 7.5:1

that is why compression is so low..

Bill

the last record i heard was 18psi on stock rods

is there a better way to use stock rods with aftermarket pistons? do some brands match up better than others? certain wrist pins? i would like to learn more on this so i could use the stock rods...id only want to run about 10-12 pounds and not have to worry about cracking a piston...let me know

comon, somebody else. i too am one poor, cheap ass dude. i want to hear some more about this less expensive stock rod, aftermarket piston set up. pleeeaase

Ok, so here's the way mine is set up.

Custom stock bore 8.5:1 wiseco pistons (Blackdogmotorsports) with hastings rings and the wrist pins that came with the wisecos.
The wrist pins will press into the stock rods with only relativly light pressure from a press and some engin oil as lube.

After that you are good to go. I also changed out my stock bearings for Clevite 77 bearings about a few weeks later also.

So far its running great... I'm running at 19psi now... but I have a slight missfire that i need to trace.
Only bad thing about the wisecos is they have a LOT of slap when cold. But theyre fine when hot.

so how would the wrist pins go into eagle rods compared to stock rods? how do you get them out/in....is there something else that holds them? thanks

the wrist pins that go into the stock rods are a different diamter then the ones that go into eagle rods...

press fit pin are designed to not move.. full floating style moves around thus the c clips holding it into the piston..

all you need done is the small end of the rod over sized to fit in a normal weisco wristpin...

I didn't need to get my rods oversized.
The wiseco wristpin that came with my pistons was a perfect fit into the stock rods. They are still floating as far as the piston side of things...
I've never seen an Eagle rod for a 420a so I do not know how they compare.
I just know how mine is setup.

Do you have a custom fuel rail to use the mitsu injectors? Normaly they wont fit.
60918, RE: 10,000 miles and 17psi later...

Howdy,

Nope, no custom fuel rail for the 450's. Using the stock 2gnt rail and the stock 2gnt o-rings. I was under the impression that the 2gnt orings wouldnt work, but I tried it and they work fine, very tight to get in... but they work.

Only thing I had to do was make the resistor pack... ther than that its the stock ECU running them. With some tuning from the AFC and big fuel pressure drop of course.
