60417, boosting and rebuilding in 1 month deadline
Posted by cartuners00, Nov-09-03 08:37 PM
hey guys..

im new to this site but am a member of club dsm canada. Anyways, got some questions here. here is a list of goodies that i got.

t3 garret turbo internally gated
smic
turboxs rfl bov
vortech sfmu
walhbro 255 fuel pump
missing link
boost and oil pressure gauge courtesy of speed hut
crank scraper
je pistons 8.8:1 (i wish i had 8:1 but it has to be custom made)
eagle h-beam rods
phantom grip lsd
stage 3 clutch from ebay (aita)

All of this, installed and tuned with our wideband, by the beginning of december at my shop. i just wanna know from past experiences with other boosted cars, how the drivablity will be. i plan on breakin in the motor for about 1500 miles before we even mess with the boost levels. do you guys have any problems with long drives in your car? car has to go back to the east coast after the break-in period.2500 miles.

also, how do your cars run 1bar daily driven? most of you guys run 8.8:1 comp and a bar on pump gas, how well are your cars running?

thanks

If it's tuned right, it will drive perfectly fine at 15psi/1bar.

Your parts list looks fine, but you need bigger injectors. Probably want 440cc for 1 bar.

Do 300 miles trips all the time, no prob.

No more worries then regular maintanence...bigger injectors imo

yeah you are going to want larger injectors

you really need to put the miles on the car before you start heavily tuning on a dyno or with a wideband on the road.. you need that break in time first.. i think you will be getting it very close unless you can drive about 1000 miles in a week or two. good luck on that.

im running 8.6 compression. i dont have any problems thus far. i dynoed at 19lbs of boost with 440cc injectors.. basically topped them out and made them scream.. lol

when i go on long drives, i tend to richen up a bit, because i notice that if i don't, i run at about 1500 degrees at speeds between 80 and 90mph. so either i drive slow or drive fast.. which is why i richen so i can have the sweet spot.

my car seems to be running good so far.. no real complaints besides some belt queeks that i can't seem to get rid of and are massively pissing me off.

my advice.. just richen up a little before the trip. youll need 440cc injectors if you want serious boost with what you have. on 440s youll want about 19psi of fuel at idle and about 3 turns out on the sfmu bleed valve.

also.. do a search for resitictor mod. youll need to do that as well.

have fun.

i think stock injectors are only good to about 8-9 psi.. thats pushing it. get bigger injectors and put a diff disk in the sfmu. you should be set!

What manifold are you using? not sure if you mentioned ic pipes or dp... maybe you already have that lined out. dunno. hope that might give you some help.

we're gonna be custom fabbing all the piping. from what i understand as far as the manifold, our plan was to build a nice ss tubular, but, in the time frame that we have, it wont happen. so, were just gonna run with the log style.

everything else, (head flange, collector, downpipe flange) all of it is custom. turbo performance in van nuys was gonna try to get me these things but, i havent heard from them in a week, we ended up makin it. oil lines are fabbed too. if we have time, were gonna fab a new fuel rail. (if you guys are interested, drop me an email)but like i said, car has to be back in east coast canada by christmas and were trying to get everything done.

we hope to see good numbers with the smic and 100 octane on 1 bar and a built motor with head porting and milling. hell, well be happy with 300whp as long as the car is daily drivable. I just wanted to know who drives their 420a's w/turbo and what kinda issues have come up.

thanks

Don't bother messing with the fuel rail. Stock is more than adequate for 440's.

And don't mill the head unless it's warped. Porting MIGHT help, but the success rate is fairly low- I wouldn't bother with that either. The main bottlenecks for 420a engine flow are TB and downpipe/exhaust

dont do anythign to the head unless you put cams in it.

right now.. my head is completely built and its ported and polished on both sides. im sure im loosing power with stock cams compared to before because the stock cams can't keep up with the rest of the work.
