I was wondering this. How can I tune my car along all of the RPM band if I have new engine that has not been broken in? I will be running 15 PSI for daily use. Help?:shrug

yeah do not boost until your motor is well broken in!!! unless you don't like your piston rings.

Yes that is my biggest fear when/if I rebuild my engine. I have this horrible problem of being impatient and I just know that there's no way in hell my car will last that 500 mile break in without getting floored.

Well, after all the time and money you'll spend rebuilding it, there's always this little voice in your head that reminds you that you don't wanna do it all over again! :nono

If you're worried you might boost, disconnect the wastegate flapper. Just pull the cotter pin and disconnect the actuator arm.

It holds itself open, and doesn't allow any boost, no matter how much you floor it.

As far as tuning, figure out your fuel pressures on paper, and then tune by feel. If it runs like ass and has black smoke pouring out the tailpipe, it's probably rich. ;) If your EGT's are too high, you might be leaning out, etc. IMO, it's not that important to "tune" during the breakin process, as long as you're within obvious limits.

Thanks for the responses. I know I will not boost at all. I can easily put 500 miles of stop and go traffic in less than one week. My work place and place of study are more than 100 miles round trip every damn day.x(

In any case, I can make a 500 trip in one day. Will that break in the engine nicely or is it better to just do it in one weeks time, 100 miles a day. Thanks

just drive the car

you need to let it heat up and cool down a lot. its not just highway driving that breaks in a motor.. you actually shouldn't drive it on the highway. you should basically drive it around town only.

wow 500 miles?? I remember when we were told to break in the engine for atleast 1k miles...
