59502, HRC Turbo setup question Posted by Johnl1232, Oct-26-03 06:16 AM
Hi, I was thinking about getting a Hrc stage 3 turbo kit. I just need to figure out something about the install. Ok, so First I was gonna get it installed at a shop, but then I realized it would be like 2g. So then my dad said he would help me install it.
Now I was wondering how much it would usually be to install this kit at your local shop. If thats too expensive then my dad and me would probobly install it this summer. Does anyone know how easy these kits are to install. My father says he knows how to install pistons but I dont want him to mess up the car cause he thinks he knows how to do everything. Oh well. I dont think my dad knows how to install all that stuff. Atleast he said he wont mess with the valves. Hed probobly lose one or something. Also how fast have yalls 1/4 times been with the stage 3 and stage 2
:wary :wary

it will probably run anywhere from 1500 to 2000.
have a little faith in your dad. if he says he can do it, then let him try.. if he fucks up.. you know hell replace it.

HRC's website lists their 1/4 times with each turbo stage. Keep in mind those are probably a little too optimistic for most because of driver skill. 13.7 with Stage II is what HRC lists. I'd do the install myself if you can afford to not have your car for a little while, you would learn a lot! Oh yea siueclipse, I would just like to point out that your car is P-I-M-P!

It's easy, just stick to the instructions. Get a digi handy in case you have questions for the board.

Thanks for the help. I need to know somthing else though. Is the stage 3 kit even out yet? Also what would yall say would be a better decition; Waiting for stage 3 to come out, or, Making my own stage 3 kit by buying the pistons and rods and fuel system myself. Also the hahn website dosent say what the 1/4 times for the stage 3 kit is. Should I buy new cams and valves and valve springs for it and just install them when the motor is out of the car? Also did any of yall buy another boost controller and if now does the one hahn give you work well. Thanks and sorry for all the questions. Just makin sure i dont blow a good 6g on somthing that will f up my car. Thanks agian

Yes

Picking your own internals is better imo. Pick the products you researced and like.

Not really, you can do head work later. Save your money for the bottom end first.

Hahn is debuting a new line of 'staged upgrades', that's probably what you're refering too.
First of all, you need to get the stage idea out of your head.
Think of it this way:
You have your basic kit, turbo and intercooler. The only thing stopping you from turning up the boost is the crappy internals and lack of fuel.
Hahn's 'stage 3' is just stage 2 with internals. You can find internals yourself. Strong stuff + Fuel = more boost.

Ok that actually helps. Um.... I have another question though. Isnt stage 2 just stage 1 with an intercooler? If thats true Im gonna just buy stage 1 and buy an apexi intercooler with pistons and rods and probobly valves and v springs and some kinda new fuel system. Thats the only thing im confused with though. If i buy that vortech sfmu do i need another fuel system like the stage 3 kit has? Shit someone tell me what all this stuff is please and give me suggestions on which one to get. Now I kno what your gonna say. Do your research. Yall are probobly right but ive looked at every post on this topic and still dont really know shit.
Thanks -John

Yes, stage 2 = stage 1 with intercooler and piping

Custom making your own intercooler piping kinda sucks. I would get it all with the kit
Fuel is your biggest concern next to internals. Get yourself a Vortech SFMU and a Walbro intake pump and some bigger injectors. Fuel = Done

just buy the stage 2. the intercooler that comes with it is HUGE! then after that, if you want to build your bottom end, you can contact FTY and ask them to build you a block. they do good work there. after all this is set, all you'll need to decide is what kind of fuel system you want. then BAM! u got urself a monster

Ok thanks for yalls help. I need a boost controller for it too though.
Should i get the one they have or buy another one. The one they have is cool cause it kinda reminds me of the fast and the furious cept without the nos. Oh and micheal thats nice car. Did you buy the stage 4 or make it yourself?
