59268, finally port and polished my intake manifold...and i love it!!!! Posted by DarKReaLity, Oct-22-03 01:27 PM
anyone of you turbo guys who has not done this, i urge you guys to do it. this mod gave me a huge gain. go out and buy a dremel and take your time. to me it was worth it. i port matched with the gaskets plus i made the intake inlet to 60mm for when i get the Jeep TB and smoothen out the inside of it. i feel a huge difference than from stock. boost kicks in quicker, rpms go up smoother(especially high end) and it feels better at launch. all i need to do now is dyno it. i know i gained atleast 10HP from this. even though the stock runners are kinda long, what will benefit most is that you open them ports. they freak'n small. thought i'd share this.

haha doh! ^^ you just reminded me that i didnt take pics of mine. i just had mine done not too long ago. ah well. that coupled with a bored TB should render decent gains. a mild p/p job on the head too would help :) oversided intake valves, blah blah the list goes on and on hehe.

Agreed. Having my manifold ported and a 57mm TB added is noticeable in the response department. Of course I did an AFX UDP at the same time so not sure how much is one or the other.

If I were going to do something like this I would do the extrude hone on the entire intake and portmatching the head. I have not found a local place that can do this, but they use a sandy material and run it through the runners to hone them nice and smooth. I don't see how you guys bore out the runners, they are so long and hard to work in.

there's not many places that do that, i tried calling many machine places in FL, but nowhere. one guy told me it's done in California. so i went forget it, it's not worth the time and money IMO for my goals. it's still an increase in Volume flow and velocity flow regardless.

whoa dude the lip is missing from your car! :P
hmm not sure I port and polished my intake manifold myself, wahaha even my tb that ones took forever. and seemed to make a difference, but don't know how much since I changed the internals, port and polished the exhuast manifold and head.

never use a dremel to port and polish anything.

yeah i cut the lip off after that accident i had 4 months ago. if you notice i also cut that opening at the top of it, for more airflow to the radiator. i thought it would be a good idea till i could afford another aftermarket one.
back to the subject: i brought this intake manifold P&P up just for a cheaper alternative to getting more airflow. i know there's extrude honing, and hopefully by when the world ends we get a new intake manifold. but for the time being, i would suggest you guys do it. it makes a hell of a difference. if you look at those pics of MetalJim's, it clearly shows how sorry those ports are. i'm going to dyno next week, and i'll post my HP #'s and we'll see the verdict. i'm going to boost 15psi and 18psi since many of you are there.
