i was told a hrc fmic( when boosted @ 5-6psi will make the turbo laggy? true, false? suggestions? etc?

i dunno about lag..... but i think if i remember correctly, brad from hrc told me that the fmic for anything under stage 3 is overload. so by me running on 7psi now on the fmic, im guessing id be running 8psi? on a smic? i dunno..... something like that but i got the fmic anyways cuz i plan on goin further... :+

14.5 @ 95mph / 7psi 185hp/180tq

well its the pressure loss that makes it laggy. Like my starion ic will have like 1 or 2 psi of pressure loss so at like 7 psi I'm really runing 5 psi. so you gotta compensate for that and add 2 more psi of boost.

ok..so ive got the star FMIC with the vac lines run to the manifold..am i still seeing pressure loss? so what i am asking...if i am seeing loss, with the boost guage reading 8psi...i am actually seeing 6-7psi? or with the vac lines run to the manifold am i seeing the true 8psi in the engine?

when your boost is set at 7 with the fmic you will get 5-6 psi while with a smic you will get 7 psi becasue there is more presure drop with the fmic. But whatever your boost gauge is reading is how much boost you are running.

so if my guage is reading 8-9 psi, then my turbo is pushing 9-10psi?

The turbo's pushig 9-10, but your getting 8-9 in your manifold. What ever your gauge says is what's in your manifold.

not lag, pressure loss

The whole concept of 'lag' is really an obsolete term...back when turbos were a new thing on cars some thirty years ago, there was real lag between throttle application and actual boost production. I mean, REAL lag... the turbos and engineering available back then just could not compare to what we have today.

I prefer to use the term 'response' to describe the differences seen from one combo to another.

Will an FMIC slow boost response? Yes, but not as much as you might think. In my opinion, the 'softer hit' that the FMIC causes is actually beneficial to traction and overall vehicle composure.

Consider also: the entire swept volume of an FMIC and its related piping may only be the equivalent of two to three times actual engine displacement. In the example of a 2.0 liter engine and an FMIC system
of four liters volume, how long do you think it will take the engine to 'fill' that system with airflow, even pressurized?

Boost rocks!

that's a good way to put it. I noticed when I installed my fmic is that it doesn't have a jolt anymore, it more a nice smooth transition. More consistent too ^_^
