58744, ??? stock FPR, SFMU, fuel filter....??? Posted by gilee_8, Oct-16-03 04:17 PM
Sup guys. I got most of my fuel system completed for my custom turbo kit. I installed the walbro 190 fuel pump. and the new fuel filter and the SMFU.
But I have NO CLUE how to connect the SMFU? First: my car is a 1995 Eclipse GS...so My fuel filter is in my engine bay and no need for return line. (i hope I get that right?)
<<NOTE: see below pictures for some visual ideas..>>
OK.... all my questions are here: 1) Do I need my stock FPR if I install a SFMU? 2) Do I need to remove the stock FPR? 3) is Stock FPR 'part' of the fuel rail? (one piece?) 4) only one hose to the stock FPR... is that the vaccum hose? 5) Where do I get the fuel lines for the SFMU? 6) IN GENERAL, can I please have a detail description on how to install this?

I did tried to search and read alot on the forum... but I don't get about the 1995... do ihave to CUT my stock FPR off? or can I just leave it there? or what do I have to do? Thanks.... Gil

Do a search and I guarantee you'll find your answer. Matter fact I believe instructions are in the mod page. This is why no one is answering you.

I know..I did search..I read everysingle thread on it. and I also read all the mod.....
but NONE of them are about 1995 with SFMU.
THanks.. Please....give me some clue! Gil

as I said, I read both of those forum..and I also read ALL the other searched forum which includes the SFUM, FPR, fuel pump keyword.
I did my research..but none of them talk about the fuel pump and the SFMU connection.... Like do i have to "CUT" the fuel rail to get the FPR off????
And so on and on wit hother detail questions! Thanks.. please give me some hints guys! Greatly appreciated! Gil

"You need split ring pliers that have a 90 degree bend at the tip. You use the pliers to remove the split ring that holds the stock FPR in place. Its a good idea to hold the FPR with a thumb while you remove the split ring . When you get the split ring off, put a big rag under the FPR. If you put a little less pressure on the FPR, the gas will start to leak out onto the rag. Let it all leak out and then pull the FPR off."
direct quote from corbins page, not sure what all this looks like because I have a '98 so I can't explain it any better then that.
I think the fuel return line for a '95 kinda comes out the back of the fuel rail. Run a line from that port to the inlet of your s-fmu and a line form the outlet of the s-fmu to the stock return line. and plug the vac line for the stock fpr to the vac port on the sfmu. I have no idea on what kind of fitting you'll need. But the s-fmu has AN-6 fittings and my fuel rail was AN-4. For more detail I would get ahold of corbin. Hope that helps man.

THank you.
Thanks for giving me some clue.
OK...when I removed the stock FPR... what do I do? do'nt I have to do something to block the hole or some sort?? Thanks.
And for the fuel filter..should it be "before SFUM" or "after SFMU and before the tank"?
Thanks alot! Gil

You don't want the stock FPR messing with fuel pressures. Simply remove and disable the stock FPR like this: http://www.2gnt.com/www/corbin/fpr.html You will have to re-install the FPR as it forms the end of the fuel rail. The line running to it is a vacuum line. There is no need to have that vacuum line running to the FPR anymore. Run that line to the S-FMU.
5) Where do I get the fuel lines for the SFMU?
Look at the drivers side end of the fuel rail. You will see a fuel hose that is bolted in place with two 8 mm bolts. That is the inlet line. The hose above it that is just clamped in place is the outlet line. Undo the clamp on the outlet line. Pull the end of the hose off the outlet fitting. Now, find the other end of that hose. It should lead to a metal line on the firewall. Undo the clamp on the hose at the firewall. You can now remove the rubber hose from the car. Run a new fuel hose from the outlet fitting on the fuel rail to the inlet fitting on the S-FMU. Run another hose from the outlet fitting on the S-FMU to the metal line on the firewall.
Here is a general schematic of a return style fuel system:

And the fuel filter is between the fuel pump and fuel rail inlet. You will never touch those lines. Why are you using the 190 lph pump? You'll really have to limit fuel pressures with that pump. You can only run about 7 psi on stock injectors with it.

THANKS ALOT Corbin You just got a point!
And I am sorry if I am STUPID..but I really need some clear idea on this:
>You don't want the stock FPR messing with fuel pressures. Simply >remove and disable the stock FPR like this: >http://www.2gnt.com/www/corbin/fpr.html >You will have to re-install the FPR as it forms the end of the fuel >rail. From the link above, it said CUT there... my question is: 1) if I cut it, then put the right side (the tiny piece) back to the fuel rail? 2) Won't that tiny piece will have a hole on it that leak gas?
>Look at the drivers side end of the fuel rail. You will see a fuel >hose that is bolted in place with two 8 mm bolts. That is the inlet >line. The hose above it that is just clamped in place is the outlet >line. 1) Are you saying the topmost hose that goes to the fuel rail is the return fuel line?? 2) So I just connect that to the SFMU then from SFUM back to that return fuel line?
>Undo the clamp on the outlet line. Pull the end of the hose >off the outlet fitting. Now, find the other end of that hose. It >should lead to a metal line on the firewall. >Why are you using the 190 lph pump? You'll really have to limit >fuel pressures with that pump. You can only run about 7 psi on >stock injectors with it. Ok Corbin... please tell me if this is OK. I am planning to run about 5 PSI right after I finish everything with stock injector. Then I will buy 330cc injector later on the boost to 8-9PSI Then after rebuilt, I will go to 12-14PSI max...
So will this 190lph pump do the job? (stock injector = 5PSI) (upgrade to 330cc = 7-14PSI) Is the above setup good? (possible?) Or do I need bigger injector or whatever??
Thanks alot! I greatly appreciated! Gil

Throw away the little peice that you cut off. It does not get put back into the fuel rail
1) Are you saying the topmost hose that goes to the fuel rail is the return fuel line??
Yep...it should come right out of the end of the rail and then point down at a 20 degree angle.
2) So I just connect that to the SFMU then from SFUM back to that return fuel line?
Thats it...

I accidentally bought the 190 lph from Extreme Motorsports a long time ago. That was when I first bought my kit. I wasn't running an inline in conjuction. I was running the 190, stock injectors, and the Cartech Verion 1 (complete crap). I kept trying to crank the boost up, but ran out of fuel at around 7 psi. EGT's would creep up high and the fuel pressure just wouldn't rise anymore. Thats when I found a flow chart for the pump and determined that it just wasn't capable of doing what I wanted. You'll have to run the calcs if you want to see what max boost you can use it for with different injectors: http://www.geocities.com/vttalon/tech.html
