I spoke to Gary at Howell Automotive again yesterday. I asked him about the differences in the 2 stages for the AFX 97 ecu. Then when we got to the fact of why I never got one and why Im asking , I told him because Im going to go turbo soon anyway. He says it can be used for turbo kitted cars. Is this true? Also, regarding running an NA car with no cat and a 3" exhaust, he says this is fine and backpressure is a 'myth'. He also reccomended I call Indy Cylinder heads and rant and rave at them to hurry up on their intake manifold so we can have one for our cars. I tried Magnus, but Steve said the market isnt worth it, unless I design one for them and then maybe the'yll make it. I have a DFI 6 (uninstalled), but if the AFX ecu could actually work for a turbo 420a, I wish I knew this earlier. There is a company Gary mentioned, that is making a distributor for our cars that will work with the DFI, but he says to cal them , cause theyre sitting on their ass about it (like Indy). Now I'm totally confused. Any ideas?:wary

I wouldn't put it on a turbo car. Just my $.02.

Backpressure is a misnomer. It's not the pressure that matters. No pressure is best. It's the velocity that is important. However, optimum velocity can result in some amount of pressure. Search on the subject, it's been extensively covered and argued.

Spoke to Indy Cylinder Head reagrding the manifold. They hope to have it done by early December to showcase in annual Performance Racing Industry show. 10lbs cast aluminum 2 piece intake manifold for around $490.

The reason the AFX ECU is questionable on a turbo car is because it increases your timing by a good bit (this is a large reason it ads power) And too much timing on a turbo car = BOOM! The other issue is nobody knows the timing curve of it so you would have to learn where the timing advance starts and stops and then tune for it by pulling timing on a crane or MSD ignition. Running a 3" exhaust will not hurt you too bad, you will loose some velosity so you might loose some low end, but your not going to loose 50HP or anything.

Well he's wrong , because I just spoke to the owner 3 hours ago.

Indy is making one but the price seems off compared to the last time I talked to them. I was told $600 for a bare head. All factory components will work on the head. All they did was take a stock head and port it. It will also be port matched automatically to the Indy intakes.

I spoke to the main guy directly, no lie , he said $490. Trust me, I bugged him to the point where he finally spit it out. Yes its 2 piece cast aluminum, and they want to showcase it for the next Indy performance show.

Yes, That is why the SAFC is evil. If you have one feed it to your garbage disposal, thats my opinion at least.
