5821, What's are ideal egt temps?
Posted by fly1, Jun-03-01 01:41 AM
For you guys with egt gauges, what should the temperature be when idling, cruising and, under full boost (~7-8psi)? I've searched in the archive and didn't really find too much there. I've also asked a few 4g63 owners and they're saying it varies from car to car? What temps have you guys noticed with your turbo setups. Is there a certain max temperature that I should watch for? Thanks in advance.

Hahn has a good write up at the below URL:

Basically, ideal EGT temps depend on where the probe is mounted... I have mine in runner 1 of the exhaust mani about an inch from the exhuast port, so I typically see around 1400 degrees fareheit tops at WOT... I am running really rich so I have room to lean it out. You don't want to exceed 1550-1600 degrees at this location. If you mounted after the turbo in the downpipe since you have a hahnsetup, expect a thermal difference of 200 degrees. If you have a EGT guage that measures celcius, you will have to figure the temps yourself since i'm stoopid and don't want to search for the convesion formula...
