which spring and which disk in the SFMU should be used w/ 30lb injectors to make her run nice. and also, isnt it true that i should be able to run around a max of 10 psi w/ the STAR kit without leaning it out to the point of detination with this set up correctly?

I found for me, the biggest disc was too rich. I ended up switching it out for the 2.72" disc/ring. I set my idle fuel pressure to about 24 psi. Much happier now. Watch those EGT's!!!

which spring did you end up using with the 2.72 disk?

I'm using largest disk with bleed and check valve. Work very well.

could someone please explain to me what a bleed valve is...not sure

thanks

the bleed valve is used to fine tune the fuel settings. The disk/spring gets you in the nehborhood, the bleed gets you home.

i assume there is a bleed valve on the sfmu?

no. the S-FMU does not come with any type of bleed/needle valve unlike the CarTech unit.

http://www.clippard.com/store/display_details.asp?sku=MNV-1K
is where you will buy your needle valve from. this is the exact same unit that Vortech will sell you, for about 1/4 of the cost.

you will also need a NPT fitting to screw into the output of the needle valve so you can attach a check valve onto it. i bought mine from HRC. it was like $2 or something. i had a hard time describing to the sales rep. what i needed, tell him that you need a 5/32 NPT flare fitting? i think? i can't remember.

the thing is that the needle valve openes up a channel to the chamber in the S-FMU above the diaphram. the theory is that it will bleed off a small amount of the pressure under boost only, to tune your fuel curve. if you don't get a check valve on the needle valve, it will let air in under vacuum and completely screw up your fuel trims in vacuum.

EDIT: i was wrong. the thread size is 10/32.

ok cool. so get the check valve from HRC and the 1-/32 NPT fitting from home depot? can i attach this needle/bleed valve basically in front of the SFMU on the same vac line...actually i would assume that you would need to do this. lol. lemme know

thanks

EDIT: if someone could snap a picture of their bleed valve it might help me understand a bit more as to whats goin on here. thanks ;)

I got my hrc kit about a year ago and it came with the same exact bleed fitting that the cartech came with. It just screws out and screw it into the sfmu and attach the fishy fish tank check valve to it. your good to go.

fishy fish check valve lol. ok, so i call up HRC and ask for the check valve that attaches to the FMU?

Go to a pet store with a 1.75 and get yourself a check valve. Go to Home Depot and get creative with their plumbing area and make your own bleed valve like I did. Just use the search forum for one of my posts and it has the exact part numbers you'll need to make a bleed valve. The needle nose fitting is an NPT 10/32 that could be found almost anywhere.

you are actually serious about it being a fish check valve.:wary . well then haha. is there a special name i should call it, or are they all the same for fish heh? i cant believe i am using the word fish in a 2gnt forum! lol

Shopping list:

1) Check valve ($1 Petco fish tank valve or $5 HRC - you pick)

2) Needle valve (The one from an HRC kit cartech FPR will work)

Aquarium style checkvalve:

HRC style checkvalve and needle valve:

In that ^^^ pic, the brass thing is the needle valve, the white plastic can is the check valve.

I didn't know what that bleed valve was for so I threw it out. I thought it was some extra pieces when I got my HRC kit. That whole year I ran the cartech without the bleed valve and just a check valve. No wonder the motherfucker was running weird?
58281, correct me if i am wrong here....

instead of purchasing a SFMU, couldnt you just purchase the recalibration kit for say, 8:1 ratio, and get the same effect of a SFMU?

Anyone who needs to set up the bleed valve, read my post on how to do it. It's working really well for me. By the way, I was wrong about the 2.72" disc. I found that I was actually running a fair bit lean. On 30# or 310cc injectors (they are actually different by a hair), use the largest disc (there is no ring for the biggest disc) and set up a bleed valve. Without the valve, you will run really rich in boost. Mine was so rich that the car would studder around 6-7 psi. The bleed valve is a must, and now it's easier than ever to set up. Read my thread.
