58023, Help! hose off of turbo split.. Posted by solareclipse98, Oct-07-03 09:16 AM
We are using a silicon hose to link the intercooler pipe to the turbo... it cracked and the pipe fell off.... can anyone recommend a good silicon hose that isn't cheap or will crack?

turbohose.com has a nice selection. Or you can go straight to turbonetics, they carry a nice array. You sure your old coupler is not nitrile?

go to fucking lowes and by some pvc piping and go to autozone and get some radiator hose in the angles you need..
pvc pipe actually works good.. it doesn't expand or conduct heat.

i thought there was a discussion on the pvc piping that it would soften and the clamps would loosen?

i think i'm going to order a 90* bend to carry around with me incase mine ever breaks. i'm trying to stay away from PVC because it looks ghetto. what size do i need? 2.25"?

he runs a ford probe running 14lbs of boost with a generic intercooler..
pvc piping looks shitty.. just paint it black with some high temp paint.. it will look fine.

When this happened to me I took the broken coupler to napa and got a 90 digree radiator hose, cut it, and threw it on. Its been working great, but I plan on replacing it soon.
edit: bigups on the link man, turbohose.com takes me to a *as seen on TV* shits for car wax. grrr i hate the interweb
edit2:
How about this one: http://linux.forcedperformance.net/merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=FP&Product_Code=INTIC90C250&Category_Code=DSM-Intake
Its a 2.5, thats the right size right? Anyone know the size of the one on the compressor inlet and the one on the TB? Ill replace them all while I am at it.

What i did is i went and bought some interwoven nice silicon hose.. it's blue and got some high compression clamps you just use a 11mm socket to tighten it... I bought it at Phantom Motorsports here in SLC.. works like a charm! :)
BTW: we are getting solar dyno'ed in 2 weeks... 480 miles so far so good!

I chopped up my stage 1 piping off the HRC and hooked it up with some JCWhitney bends. Real ghetto fabolous. Ask Oracle, Remy and Icedout. They'll tell you. Only problem I have is sometimes, it'll blow off because it has no beadings. I have a 2inch radiator hose from the turbo outlet to the first pipe which is 2inch also. I have that pipe go into a 2.25inch pipe from JCWhiteny that is coupled with plastic pipe couplers from Home Depot. That one is 2inch into 2.25inch. The rest of my piping from there on is 2.25inch.

^ 40 damn dollars!!! I'll stick with my 2.50 bends from LOWES...they are working fine so far.
and yes http://www.turbohoses.com/ works much better:thumbsup
EDIT*
holy crap silicon hoses are a scam man...rip off IMO

So the one on the compressor outlet to the pipe is 2 inch? The one that hrc sends that always pops from heat? I am going to order one, but its like $50 so I want to be sure I get the right one, I won't be able to get to my car for a while to check it myself thats why i ask. thanks

i just ordered the 2" 90* silicone elbow. cheapest place i could find one, although i didn't look very hard. i'll carry it around in my glove box with a wrench for the clamp and just drive around on the HRC one until it breaks. might as well get some use out of it.

Mine split like that and I just re-ordered a new one from Hahn. I think it was like 12 bucks plus like 5 for shipping. I'm sure you can do PVC for cheaper, but as mentioned, it looks ghetto. Just give Hahn a call, and yes, it is 2.25 dia. Once you get your new one on, wipe it down with some silicone or lubricant of some sort to keep it from drying out under the high heat every now and then (don't use anything flammable:nono ) Happy boosting!
