Yes it will throw a CEL...

Bad EGR can cause idle stalling, rough idle, poor gas milage, and low power output. This is usually the case if the egr is stuck open or leaking. It can also stay stuck closed, or not working at all, which in this case, will trip the CEL eventually, but will not really effect the running of the engine.
