Im buying a new car...and was wondering what you guys suggest ?

I was thinking of
1. 98-99 ECLIPSE SPYDER TURBO
2. 96-97 AUDI 1.8TURBO A4 Quatro
3. 99 TOYOTA SOLARA V6
4. 99-2000 PRELUDE SH
5. 97-99 INTEGRA GSR


any other suggestions ?? I have 20,000.

1st Gen GSX or TSI AWD and then spend the rest of the money on an engine rebuild and a lot of mods and be VERY very fast.

Buy a 93 RX7. anything else would be a waste of 20,000

Get the Audi, out of all listed it seems to have the most potential and it's 4wd.

I heard that a simple drop-in performance hip will raise the boost level, remove the limiters and give you like 30-40hp... (with no other mods!)

OR

You could get a nice Eclipse RS and Mod the crap out of it (to the extent that only the frame is stock, and have a very cool, super fast, brand new unique car.

Wait!

Or you could buy a couple of Kias...

Spend it on College so you could make more money and not have to debate on what kind of car to buy but what kinds of carS (plural) to buy.

hmm I like the RX7, but that's a pure sports car. If you can get a Mitsu 3KGT VR4, I'm that'll go around 20k used, used of course :P It's a 4 seater and has a little more room than an Eclipse. Not good on gas though. Audi sounds good and the thing about the chip is true from what I"ve been hearing. If you can wait till july I heard the Lancer is coming out, don't think it's the EVO but we'll see. There's a possibility. A Neon would be a nice buy too and you'd have money left over. Or if you want total handling go with the highest end model Miata. Has 140 horsies like the 2GNT but lighter and has VVT.

No. Thats like buying the same car twice

This one has it all (I always suggest it). Great looks, Girlies dig late model Audis, Aftermarket parts out the ass (partly thanks to VW cross referencing ), factory turbo and AWD, sweet interior and way under priced when they came out new. Plus not every tom, dick and joe will have one much less with mods.

Are you kidding me. Yeah the V6 is powerful but there's no sport what so ever. Right up there with the Monte Carlo. Failry nice looking but way overweight and floaty. Not what a coupe should be (why is it that only BMW knows how to make coupe versions of their sedans right)

Would be my choice weren't for the Audi. Hell if the Audi didn't have the advantage of already being turbo (thus easily upgradeable) and AWD I'd say get the Prelude. One Honda I dig.

240SX. get it for much less than $20K and turbo the f*ck out of it. The only affordable AND good looking RWD import car I can think of. Bad ass looks epecially Silvialized. Its a shell looking for and engine.

MR2. need I say more. 0-60 6sec flat 14.7 1/4 stock. RWD Mid engine. Robust factory turbo. Who ever said the RX7 was the only car under $20K needs to take a ride in an MR2.

And for the RX7 advocates need I remind you of a few things:
1)1001 rubber vacuum lines that often fail and makes it impossible to diagnose without basically converting them all to silicon. regquires removing the top half manifold. Cost $500
2)How long to turbo rotaries live before needing a rebuild typically: Not long enough to buy one used without a future plan.
3)Just wait to you try and insure it (and you thought the MR2 is high to insure). Yes they are phat in everyway but know what your getting into. Its not a cheap car to own even now.

okay i'm sorry people sure the audi has performance potential but i think it looks like straight a$$!!!!! that car is soooo f@#kin ugly. get a 1g gsx like fast420a suggested and work your way into the 11's!!! plus with the extra money get a nice bike!

How about a used late model supra TT. The Audi is nice but, how much is the S4? New Corvette? Have Motorex ship you over a used R33:)

Buy a car fairly cheap, take a trip to Japan, and buy everything JDM for that car, ship it back to the states and build your own import monster.

P.S. Don't wait for the lancer thats coming over here. It's not the EVO so that means NO TURBO!! 140Hp at the most and no AWD.
Doesn't look like the EVO is coming over here anytime soon.

93-98 Toyota Twin Turbo Supra (6-Speed)

If you can find a Supra TT reasonably priced great. The Audi is only about $28K new and looks great me, much better than a 1G

I believe the Evos are coming and they will not be too late for the dance. Afterall, has these 2 teams ever stopped fighting?

If it were me though, and you're searching for a little comfort in your automobile, i would say go head and get the AUDI. I think someone already said that earlier. I dont know how old you are but this car will grow with you through the ages. It is a fantastic sleeper. Guys in their 40's and 50's buy these cars and drive them to their steady jobs on walstreet. These are the guys that I prey on but they don't have any mods too.

Wrap up:
Soobs - little more luxurious than evos; more expensive
evos - little better handling
audi's - i just creamed myself

He doesn't have enoough for a WRX, even the Audi will have to be used (they are about the same price new)

My other suggestion is a few year old Vette.

And I don't know where you got 20k but if you are feelign generous I'll take some.

The car I really want is the AUDI however, I was talking to neuspeed and they said the same engine is in the 98-00 passat and the new jetta 00-01 and also the Golf....in all honest..I this jettas are for girls and the passat is a little familyish, and just nahhh to the golf....but damn...that 1.8 is a powerplant..the chip offers 35-40 extra hp...putting the car at 190...and they also offer the 2grand turbo upgrade..which is basically the chip and a bigger turbo...upping the power to 250+...but with either of these cars im looking at 17-20k and not to mention the cost of mods.
But, the spyder is already 210 looks sick with the top down...and with a lowering kit and some 20" rims...the chicks legs will all be spread! ??
As for the rest.
RX7...eesh a rotary nightmare...mucho repairo
Supra...very very high maintanence..
MR2...too damn small..but fun
Miata...No freakin turbo
GSR...I just hate them...
PRelude...GOTTA LOVE IT...but pricey and weighs a ton.
Solara....yep..it doesnt have enough power or mods.
GTS celica....too much cash.

So far im down to SPYDER, PRELUDE, JETTA 1.8t, Passat 1.8T, Golf 1.8T or....AUDI !!

supra isn't high maintenance. it's just the performance parts cost soo much. vr-4 is high maintenance.

My credibility first: My Parents own an Audi A4, My friends own a 2001 Golf Cabrio and a 2000 Jetta.

The Audi has *never* seen the service department of the dealership for *any* problem.

The Jetta and the Cabrio however have been in there for all sorts of problems ranging from "inexplicable" Check-engine lights (Jetta & Cabrio) to 2 Blown O2 sensors (Jetta), to failing alarm - Disarms itslef (Cabrio), Loss of electriciy to the cockpit (Radio asks for security code when you come to drive the car) etc... Kind of reminds me of the Corrado and its notorious electronics problems..

It's your call.. :-) Just make sure that whatever you get is NOT assembled outside Germany or the US :-)


Oh, and if the Audi 1.8 Non-Turbo Makes 140hp (Europe), and the '97 1.8T makes 150hp then you can bet on one thing... PUMP up the boost 'coz that sucker should be able to make *at Least* 100hp more!

Also looking at Audi's Specs, the 1.8T in 2001 Makes 170hp with a 9.3:1 compression ratio.. the 1996 1.8T makes 150hp with 9.5:1.... Time for a boost controller and some fuel...It is intercooled right...?

On the other Hand.. Audi/VW group is kind of dissapointing... I mean they make VERY inefficient engines.. Look at their 2.0L it makes... a whooping 115hp !!!!!

If you're going for the "I made it" look, go Audi you can't lose.

I noticed you said high maintainance - in what world?!?!

They only downfall is that is weighs 3505lbs but comes with 2 turbos a 6 speed.

Or how about this for trivia: The chief designing engineer for the supra said the engine is 500HP motor DETUNED to 320HP. Sh!t you can make 600HP without ever going inside the engine. All it needs is fuel. I know for a fact that $2000 will transform a Supra TT into 4s 0-60's and 12s quarter miles.

The only reason I don't own one is because my insurance is insane and would have a hard time keeping my liscense!
