Do you people with Stage One kits have really hot engine compartments? I opened up my hood after a day of driving and I noticed my breather is shiny anymore, (it's a Weapon R) and it was all melted and stuff. I remember my engine bay didn't get that hot b4. Would a intercooler help cool it down?

Would wrapping the Turbine with aluminum foil help haha!!! Or that turbo wrap stuff. So this is what it's like to not have a heat shield.

I had the header wrap before and it work well.

the header wrap stuff are known to cause cracking and crap like that to the headers or anything that gets really hot. you might want to wire your fans to be on all the time (when the car is on only tho) or just with a switch, this will help a lot.

yeah, header wrap is what has caused my downpipe to continuously keep cracking in new spots. don't do it. think about getting it ceramic coated.

Yeah that would be nice to wire the fans to be on all the time. I'm sure though in the winter time it will get annoying and any other time. Maybe I can fabricate a heat shield similar to the stock one, the stock one was great except that the damn thing cracked and rattled. Does the intercooler aid in getting the engine compartment temps lower? I notice the intake pipe from the compressor gets really hot.

I sure hope so cause while my breather or anything else hasn't melted my intake pipe does get pretty hot (from what I've read the air isn't in the intake and turbo long enough to heat the air as much as people think but still gets heated while being compressed). I dont know how the tie wrap on the wastegate and the hose to my boost controller even survive. It sits about 3" above the turbine and gets hot too. Its not like I can feel great heat when I open the hood or am melting sh*t but I'd be much happier if my intake pipe wasn't hot as hell. I also feel my performance drops off after a few hard blast but maybe its my imagination.

my engine temps have dropped a LOT since i put my new hood on cause it's got about 6 vents to let heat dissapate(sp?)

Where are the hoods located? The turbo is in the front so I would guess that's a good place to have one and probably for the TB I guess. I'm thinking of getting a Carbon Fiber hood somewhere along the line. So I guess the hot engine compartment is unavoidable. I'm thinking of wrapping my starter though, I heard the starter gets jacked up from the heat the turbo generates, it's right under the turbo. Will changing my NGK 6s to 7s help cool things down?

Possibly..

All i can tell you, even with my stage 2, after the 20 minute commute home from work, my hood holder-upper thingy is hot enough to blister my hand if i hold it for to long.

Like, a TSi AWD's 60' time too long.

I believe the hood is the thingy over top your engine :-) He's refering to an aftermarket hood with vents
