57250, Question on turbo timer (not the usual "how do I")
Posted by tim97rs, Sep-29-03 04:12 PM
when turning off you car after a run with TT on, does anybody elses car have a split second where everything shuts off and comes back on again? Ex: my radio shuts off and starts to fold up but then comes back on, and so does my SAFC. They act as if they are being turned on for the first time. Oddly enough i had a week or so where they didn't do that, everything just stayed on without interuption.
Why does the TT do that? I have the Apexi TT.

I would check your ground at your hand brake. make sure that it is a nice clean connection IMO.

btw. mine does not pause at all. the car acts as if the key was left on.

mine does that too. everything minus the radio (lights, gauges, AFC, whatever) tweaks for a split second. it doesn't bother me enough for me to hunt down the problem.

i have the GReddy Timer BTW.

I have the greddy tt and followed the directions to a tee. When I cut my car off everything cuts off except the engine. No radio no powersteering, nothing. Oh well.

At least it now works...

Woah, that's a cool place to have your TT. I just have mine plopped on top of the steering column using the sticky velcro thing. Cool man.:thumbsup

well, im gonna try the ground, cause i have some other gauge issues that i beleive to be ground related. i'll get back to ya...

Because there is always going to be a split second before the timer kicks on and begins supplying power to the ignition circuit to keep the car on. That is normal behavior.

ITS THE GROUNDING!!!!!

I have 3 or 4 componants (gauges, TT, etc.) all grounded to one single 18 or 22 gauge wire that is grounded to the metal radio bracket area.
I was having issues with my electronic FP gauge ramdomly not working when i would start my car untill i unplugged the harness from the back and then plugged it right back in. It would work everytime after i did this.

My TT has always powered down then repowered the radio, SAFC, and digital A/F gauge. the only time it did not do this was when i shipped my gauge off to autometer for testing. Gauge good!! New harness and sending unit installed and still have/had the same problem.

The TT DOES NOT cut power to anything when the key is removed with FP gauge unplugged!!!

Hummm...
New grounding solution to follow this weekend!!!

Maybe you're right. My Greddy TT causes the car to hiccup for a second, and it's grounded to the unibody by the doorframe.

My greddy tt is grounded to one of the bolts that holds the ebrake where it should be. of, course, my tt sits in my ash tray after some modification.

I have no problems with my tt. I turn the car off and it keeps on running like nothing ever happened. the accesories and radio and such shut off like they normally would but the engine keeps running perfectly. no hiccup or split second anything

are TT's supposed to power the accesories while it's running? i kinda don't see the point in that. it really only needs to power the ignition wire, right? the whole point of the TT's so you can leave the car running on it's own so it's not like anyone's there to use the accesories. i'm not turbo'd or anything but when i do it's not gonna be an issue b/c i already modded my car so the accesories stay on until you open a door (a feature that comes stock on some newer cars). i guess once i integrate a TT i'll just have the engine'll keep running as well as the accesories and then have the acc. shut off when i open the door.

i still find it strange that there's that split second delay though. i mean if it doesn't happen to the engine then the TT's not having any problem making the transition from the ignition wire being powered by the to key to being powered by the TT. so idk why it'd have that problem with the accessories if it's doing the exact same thing it's doing with the ignition wire.

I believe that if everything is installed like the instructions say, and the ground is good, the accessories should turn off and the car should not hiccup. But all cars are different so who knows. I personally like that all my accessories cut off.

NER947 - that is the sweeeetest TT install I have seen yet. I might be moving mine this weekend! Did you cut that out with a razor?

I wired correctly, your accessories should all turn off and your engine should run for however long you set the TT for. There shouldn't be any hiccups. Just turn the key and pull it out like nothing happend. As was mentioned ^^^ 400 times, that has got to be a grounding problem.

IMO .... A great spot to ground ..... underneath the steering column and behind the brake pedal there is a fairly large piece of steel sheet metal. I grabbed a drill and like a 1/8 bit and somehow wedged the drill in there and drilled a hole through it. I found small size machine screw and then tapped it. I ground almost everything right there. It's an easy spot to check if something gets screwy (easy access) and so far, in almost 6 months nothing has budged, no ground problems.

My old style Greddy TT hiccups too... sometimes so bad it actually shuts off the motor. It makes a difference if I turn the key slower vs faster, almost as if there's dead space between the switch contacts. The TT is grounded under the steering column.

I was going to try adding a small inline capacitor...

how many people with a TT have the wiring harness AND have acc. on while TT is counting down?
How many who did thier own wiring job have/dont have acc. still on while TT counts down?

I have the wiring harness but my accesories shut off.

I did my own wiring job with a wiring harness and the accessories all turn off.

Well, what the hell. its not the grounding! :wary I have a 10ga. wire from the neg. batt. term. to an 8 space junction block thats jumped. That still didnt do it. When TT is on, FP gauge no work. When TT is off, FP gauge works!!!
Maybe its the 3 hot wires i have spliced off one hot source. humm... more troubleshootin!!!!:wary :wary :wary
