572, hi temp RTV Silicone gasket????? Posted by 95ESi, Dec-31-00 02:48 PM
The star kit didn't come with any gaskets for the turbo, so...
Should I put RTV Silicone gasket between the turbo and downpipe and manifold?
Or just leave it bare and hope no leaks come about?

I think for my HRC kit, ther ewas only a gasket betwen the turbo and downpipe. If I remember correctly, the turbo and manifold didn't require a gasket.
Also, I'm not sure if you want to use silicone sealant for this. Why not just get some of those universal packaged gaskets that can be bought at car parts stores and cut one to size.

Yeah...I've heard that the turbo to manifold connection should be machined well enough that you don't need a gasket. My HRC has a metal gasket there though . If you get a universal gasket for the manifold to downpipe connection, be sure to avoid paper gaskets. They burn out quickly. Get an aluminum or copper gasket for that joint. I've got an aluminum one and it works very nicely <$2.50>. You may have to use a rasp to enlarge the bolt holes on the gasket. The won't burn up, blow out, and are reusable.

Its the round rubber gasket that seals the oil return line from the turbo to the oil pan.

Like the others my HRC kit came with a metal/aluminum gasket between the turbo and manifold, and between the turbo and downpipe, but still got burned, turned brittle and just fell apart. When HRC sent me their new manifold, (original SS type cracked on me)they didnt include a gasket so I used Copper RTV silicone (highest temp RTV), but that too just eventually blew out. Try the gaskets that BoostnRS mentioned, maybe you'll have better luck.
