i am running about 300hp to the wheels on 93oct. i have a fluidine radiator new water pump and 1800cfm fan. we block tested it and found nothing, but i am still overheating when i run her really hard. i tried taking the thermostat out but it still did it(not as bad though). it just seems like it is building a lot of pressure, so we tried a 13lb radiator cap but still nothing. anyone know what it might be or have any ideas please help. i'm thinkin the water pump doesn't flow enough. does anyone make a higher flow unit?

Using a fluidyne, I highly doubt that it cant keep up. Do your fans come on at all? Headgasket issues? What are you reading from for your coolant temp? the dash gauge? Get a datalogger and find the true coolant temp. Could be just the temp sender for the dash gauge going bad. How is the motor tuned? Your EGT's are not through the roof?

Headgasket.

the headgasket was just changed b/c it was leaking. we did a block test and the new one is not leaking. the motor was just put back together and put on the dyno and started overheating when we started hitting max hp. the new h/g does not even have 2 hours of run time on it.

1st off i run full stand alone. the fans r set to come on early and stay on. h/g is fine. not sure on the coolant temp at the moment. EGT's are fine.

If it started overheating when you hit max power, you probably blew the HG. Runtime has nothing to do with it, if it's blown it's blown. I'm just saying it might be a good idea to do a leakdown test to verify.

when climbing to 300hp myself i noticed my engine compartment gets very hot, even at idle, but the motor itself is actually cool according to the gauges and what not.

how high does the temp gauge go?

if it is generally overheating, do a leak down test.

What temp gauge are you going off of? If its the stock gauge you are reading, you may want to replace the sending unit for it in the thermostat housing. I had that problem.

Wow you run a full stand alone? Which one? How was the install? How easy was it to get the car running with no base maps? I don't know about everyone else, but I would like more info on that. As for your overheating, I get the same thing when EGT's climb for periods of time. Do the leak down test and see what's going on with that HG. If your running a fluidyne and it's still overheating I would start there. Do you have any heat shielding around the turbo? Was it overheating before the HG install? If not then that's the first place I would look.

hmm you can try putting some water wetter in it and get a cooler thermostat but you said you tried it without it. DId you have a BIG fan where you dynoe'd it at pointing at the engine bay.

I think a lot of the hi hp turbo guys should start investing in some kinda hood scoop or vent. or get a buncha heatshield for the hot stuff I guess. cuz I'm barely pushing 210 and it gets pretty toasty in there.

I'm going to vote headgasket too. Did you grind down your factory top right corner bolt or install ARP head studs? Otherwise, it doesn't matter how new the head gasket is, the bolt can never tighten that back corner if you have the hole-not-drilled-deep-enuf issue our cars have such a reputation for.

The biggest reason i suspect the HG is personal experience: When my car laid dow 302wHP, we pulled it probably 15 times back to back. No cooldown, no waiting, no bullshit.. the machine never complained. it never overheated, the needle never moved beyond that 200-someodd degree dead level halfway point, even after **15** dyno pulls back to back (one a BONE STOCK cooling system - factory radiator, factory thermostat, factory fans), with only enough time in between to make fuel adjustments on an SAFC. That was with a small fan, in the dead of Houston summer, on a stock 95-96 front clip with an FMIC behind it. The factory cooling system is more than adaquate for power levels well beyond factory specs - if you have overheating problems on a mostly stock cooling system, suspect HG leaks first and the cooling system second. With an MLS HG and high torque head bolts or studs especially, headgasket leaks and the associated overheating can be very intermittant and very hard to diagnose. It honestly took me six months and lots of cooling system mods before i finally realized that it had to be the HG, because everything else was fine. Turns out i blew it in 4 places... but it still ran 13.90's at 105MPH, even hurt. It'll still perform, it'll still run great, there aren't always the classic symptoms of a blown HG, but it doesn't mean that it's not leaking.

What if you put a fan in front of the car and it stops the over heating problem while tuning?? this happend to me... and solved the problem.. but i think it was cuz i was running too lean...

it stopped as soon as i started running rich and put a fan in front of it to help the heat.
