5652, HRC wategate actuator???? Posted by guest, May-29-01 09:24 AM
LAST EDITED ON 29-May-01 AT 02:25 PM (PST)It looks like I am getting an HRC stage one here with in the next week or two. I was wondering about the boost levels with the HRC kit. What does the kit come with. The site says 5-7 psi. So the waste gate can go from 5-7psi right? Isnt 7 psi kind of high on a non intercooled engine. 7psi would be great if I can do it safely but 5 psi seems to be much safer. I dont know much about the HRC kit because I always thought I would go with the star kit. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

99% of the time, it will only boost about 5, but sometimes it may reach as high as 6. I only remember one time when it actually got to 7.
I wouldn't worry too much about overboosting. The actuator makes its determination based on atmospheric pressures or something. So I guess what I'm guessing at, is if it boosts that high, it's because the surroiudning weather premits it.
You'll soon learn that being turbocharged, and having that power related to a turbo has a large bearing on what the weather is like (temperature or otherwise). I can tell that my car feels more powerful on a cool evening than a hot blistery afternoon. It also seems there is a related correlation with how high the car boosts with the temperature.

Thanks for the info jason. BTW what fmic do you have? And were you able to save the fog lights with it on there?

I just have some aftermarket fog lights that nicely frames the FMIC. So yes, I was able to "retain" them.
As far as the FMIC, I have a Starion FMIC. I still get a kick out of letting people touch the end-tanks to feel how well the intercooler works.

I mat go your route and get a starion FMIC. Nice bang for the buck.

LAST EDITED ON 29-May-01 AT 07:33 PM (PST)That is very true about the weather. I took my car out for a spin last night and sure was peppier than it was in the hot day time. But I guess that's true for NA also.
The starion FMIC, how did you get the piping for it? I'm thinking of doing this too, since I can get one from the junkyard for dirt cheap. But then I'll have to take out the turbo again....
