Alright, ever since I installed my S-FMU last Spring, I realized that my car won't chirp the tires at the top of first gear. It still pulls hard but no wheel spin. I was thinking it's one of these three things...

1. S-FMU is tuned a bit richer = less power
2. It's been hotter outside = less power
3. Clutch was going out = less power at the low ends resulting in less power at the top of the gear

Anybody have any insight or other ideas? It was so cool hearing those tires chirp at 6k.

If you're asking me then no. I don't have exact numbers but my engine has always been in good condition. I'll have to have a compression test done though.

thats strange mine doesnt chirp any more either, i had a engine with 130k , worn clutch and a ticking rod that would chirp, then i got a engine in great shape with 55k and a new clutch and it dosnt chirp any more and im not running as rich as i was before with the old engine, so iuno, it still feels the same tho, just no noise

Exactly! My car feels just as fast, just doesn't chirp anymore. I don't get it. I only have 69k on the motor and I've never had any problems (knock on wood). If I had balls I would try leaning it out some more but I'll probably just see if the chirp comes back once I get that intercooler on...I think it might be the heat.

My guess is that you have gradually have gotten better at working your clutch over time and haven't noticed. You don't want to chirp, you want all the traction you can get, right? Or are you trying to burn out or something?

Goddam! My car must have some serious problem or something. IM at 15 psi and my car starts chirping some times at the top of first and second. You guys are doing it unintercooled? I think I have some tuning to do.

umm, if you're running 15psi and your tires don't smoke first and even some of second then there's something wrong... that is if you are in fact giving it some throttle.

as for the question above, it's the heat. hotter temps affect turbo engines much more than they do N/A engines.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. When we installed my kit it was January and I'm in Illinois so the winters get pretty cold. I'll be intercooled as soon as Matt makes those custom IC pipes for the 1G SMICs.

well guys lol my car chirped first bone stock n/a , with the ticking rod, worn clutch and 130k miles, now i have a 55k engine, headers and cat back exhaust and cai and a brand new clutch and it dont do it, so iuno lol

I'm sure it also has a lot to do with the temperature of the tires and the relative humidity.

i used to chirp with my stockers. now with my 18's, i can't chirp

i hardly ever chirp my tires..but of course i never redline either. i usually shift at 6500 rpms or something. one day on 4th of july.. i was going home around 12am or something and this CRX pulls up next to me with a few guys in it..but anyways.. i raced him 3 times..and all 3 times i would chirp 1st, 2nd, and 3rd on my car when i shifted.. i was like "awesome!!!" i dunno..that's the only time i've really chirped my car.. i dunno.

Hmm, I meant my car would chirp the tires as I was hitting full boost as I approached the top of the gear, not when shifting (although it would chirp then too). It usually happens for me around 6k and like you, I shift at 6500. I think Chrysler Kid said GS-Ts do it too. I've only driven one GS-T but didn't get a chance to find out since the guy from the dealership was in the back seat :-(.

BTW: Nice one chirping going into third. You must be a great driver because for some reason I can never quite get those wheels to slip when going into 3rd. Hopefully this stage 4 clutch will do the trick :thumbsup.

I wish i would only "chirp" the tires :) I can loose all traction in first, and second, if i floor it and hit full 13 psi. I would have to say its the temp of the street,and the tires. When it was cold out, you have worse traction. When its warmer out, the street is warmer, and also your tires, giving you better traction. I see that all the time. Winter time around here, i have NO traction what soever. Of course too, you make a bit more power when its colder, so that doesnt help the situation any.

I can't get my tires to chirp or spin at all at 14psi. There's a strange sticker on the b-piller that says AWD. I don't know what that means, but maybe it has something to do with it.

im sure its as simple as what gas you got...some batches arent so good, espceially in CA where we get 91, i get the same thing man, its just the gas...get 93 and you'll squeeeel em like a bitch. <hop><hop><hop> one wheeler peeler style :thumbsup (for those of us les fortunate to have no lsd)

If you're talking to me I always use 93...

And I doubt they'll be squeeling like a bitch at the top of the gear :wary.

Even when i just ran 13psi, i could blow the tires all of 1st gear, and 90% of 2nd, and it would break loose at the very top of 3rd gear also. CM stage 4. i bet your clutch is on the way, or slowly getting worse, which is to be expected. Not putting as much HP to the ground as it used to, cause its getting worn and slipping slightly.

humm.... i dont think i can chirp any of them (besides the obvious 1st gear). before and after i installed a CM stage 4 and phantom grip lsd. still no chripage. o well...

On stockers I could chirp third gear. now with the 17's I havnt tried but doubt it, brand new z's dount like to be chirped }(
Thats pretty bad ass though that you could flore it in first and then chirp the top...

i used to make my firestone firehawks on the 14's scream but then i got the 16s and the yokohama 225's and it's pretty rare that i even break traction without dropping the clutch. the tires are quiet though, i can't even get them to make more than a little noise when i know for a fact i'm sliding around in a turn. my car does have 165k miles and has developed a ticking noise :o

gotta scrounge for that 2.2 soon

actually now that i think about it.. i've chriped all of 1st and most of 2nd..not chirp.. i mean like squeel/peel out or whatever when i was racing some cavalier and then when i was racing some oldf ucker in a miata. like i can chirp it fine taking off but the one time at night (i guess it was colder?) i was racing a CRX and i chirped 1st 2nd and 3rd it was either when i switched or right after i switched gears. it felt so cool cause i was also killing the CRX and after the 3rd time of me killing him the little boys were like "HOLY SHIT WHAT DO YOU HAVE DONE TO YOUR CAR" i tried to chirp the other day at the end of 1st when switching to 2nd..i shifted at redline..no chirp :(

Yeah but we're talking about chirping the tires at the top of the gear through the power band at full boost. If you can chirp the tires at 5500-6500 rpms with an NA Eclipse I'd like to shake your hand.

I can chirp em on the top of 1st and maybe into second...cheap good year F1's 16/225's on the auto:thumbsup
