the dis-2 works GRRRREAT. they also sell the crane fireball for our cars, works good too. the programmable dis-2 has an ignition retard that comes in handy with boosted applications _________ 96 talon esi-t san clemente, ca

the dis-2 is the only one of that type? in other words.. it is the 6211 model?

Go with the programmable...way better. Part number 6212. If you have any questions, IM my buddy Robby @ username "ichiban racing". He used to have one on his NT. Actually, I think he even sold the ignition to someone here.

im reading up on the msd-2 and it says its designed for 2 coil packs though. we only have 1.. or am i missing something here.

We have 1 coil pack with 2 coils in it. If you are willing to spend the money get the 6212 programmable dis2. The 6211 does not have boost dependant retard only rpm dependant which is limited for boosted applications. the 6212 does with the optional map sensor (50 bucks) the 6212 is fully laptop programmable. It has so many options it ain't funny. I have it and it is great. It even has a launch rev limiter(stutter box) that is so smooth. it has several timing maps; a standard rpm map, a boost map, a launch map, a 2nd stage map, and with the optional cam sync sensor you can retard per cylinder! so say you just want cylinder 1 to retard for some reason, you can do it. I think the unit was like 418 at summit. if you got more questions hit me up on AIM....SN luvymonstr.

Yeah, that all the sh*t I was talking about. :D
Jamesman, I would think that retarding per cylinder would be so you could equalize your cylinders. After all, every motor has it's own inconsistencies.

yeah, it would be nice to be able to program, but i can get a good deal on the non programmable one.

Alright, I was also thinking about getting a ignition system. Now I'm having doubt about buying the Crane Fireball. I'm just leaning towards the crane more b/c Hahn's uses it on their eclipse. So which one you guys think is better DIS-2 Programmable or the Crane?

i've had no experience with crane, but i like to be able to program parameters on my laptop and see realtime on the screen what's happening. the software that comes with the DIS-2 programmable allows realtime monitoring of boost and total amount of retard. Personally i think the Programmable dis2 is better than the crane, i think the crane would be a unit that would come between the standard DIS2 and the programmable unit. it has more features than then standard DIS2 but less that the programmable.

I think the ability to retard timing for a certain cylinder would be of best use for car's like the WRX, where it's common knowledge that cylinder no. 3 is always the one that fails, you can pull a couple of degrees of timing on that one when you start to get close to detonation on the rest of the cylinders.
