54133, Why wont my car start?? Posted by Jesters Eclipse, Aug-16-03 12:07 PM
OK, I installed my HRC kit w/ 335 injectors, a Walbro 255 fuel pump and an Aeromotive FPR. It was running rich, but it was at least it was running. Then I went to start it to take it to get dyno tuned and the damn thing wont start, it just cranks. I have spark and I have fuel going to the motor. When it was running I was throwing a cel (po106 - map sensor out of range) so I replaced it right before I was going to take it to the shop. It didnt start. I tried to put the old map sensor in and start it but still no luck. Someone please help me!!!

Pretty sure you need a missing link if you are throwing that code. That all I have

Sorry, I forgot to say that I already have one, and I threw the cel when I had it on.

When you put the key in and turn it to accessory, does the check engine light come on then go off like normal? Or does it not even light up? If you turn it to acc. and the cel doesn't show up, its your ecu.

When you installed the HRC kit, did you do any alterations to the map sensor wires? You may have a bad connection there.
Additionally, your fuel pressures are good upon startup? Just make sure your fuel pump wiring and fuel pressure regulator are good and dialed in correctly.

I dont rememmber if the cel is on in accessory or not. Is that a sign that the ecu is bad? If it is bad what caused it? I'll have to check on the cel tomorrow. As far as wiring the fuel pump correctly, the stock harness clips directly into the one on the Walbro, so no mis-wiring there. I knew I was running rich because when it did start up you could smell how rich it was running, there was lots of carbon in the exhaust and I was throwing fireballs. I turned it down to 40-45.

I am having sort of the same problem. I installed a Walbro 255 LPH hi-psi pump yesterday. Now I have to crank the car several times over a course of a minute or so to get it to start. Then when it starts it blows black smoke(fuel). After idling for about 30 secs or so it cleans itself up and everything is OK. I have stock injectors and a Vortech FMU 12-1.

With those injectors, you need to be running around 18-20 psi of fuel pressure at idle. 40-45 is waaayyy to much..

OK, I'll lower it, thanks. That cant be why it isnt turning over tho can it? It cranks, but just doesn't start.

you might be flooding it at that high of psi

That doesn't make any sense... it doesn't turn over, but it cranks? Those two terms mean the same thing. If it's "cranking", it's also "turning over". You mean, it will turn-over, but not "fire"?

Well if you wanna be technical...:P. Yes, it cranks but doesn't fire.

Hehe yeah I was just pullin your chain a little. :)
But yeah if you meant what you said... over 40 psi of fuel at idle on 335cc injectors, you are horribly, utterly, downright pig rich. You should be down near 20 psi of fuel at idle. Hope that is all that is wrong, but running that rich for long could possibly foul an O2 sensor...

I turned down the fuel pressure and played w/ the SAFC and it started! Thanks guys. I took it to get dyno tuned today, I posted the results under a different thread. Check them out and let me know what you think!

What fuel pressure worked best for you?

I turned it down to 20, but when I got it tuned they may have changed it. Lemme check tomorrow and Ill post back.
