53987, How often do you foul your plugs? Posted by Axewhlder, Aug-13-03 12:45 PM
I swear if I drive the car for more than 300 miles and boost pretty well my plugs are fucked. Whenever I pull them they have a really nice layer of black soot on them. When I'm at WOT @ 5psi I'm usually in the .96-1.01 stage. I always lean to the side of safety and run it rich. I have NGK's with a .34 gap on them and the vortech sfmu. Anyone know what I can do to get some more life out of my plugs?

300 miles on a set of plugs? Damm, that would get expensive! Perhaps you could be richer than you think. What kind of EGT's are you seeing during long boost pulls?

If I do a nice pull up a hill in 3rd I may see 1425-1450. Although when I'm on the highway I'm kicking at about 1500-1550. Around town it rarely goes over 1350.

Those numbers sound pretty good. Not sure on this one... I'm not much of a spark plug expert, but I know some of these guys around here can help...

I also upgraded the wires and the coilpack to the screamin demon too. I'll change them one more time and see if it helps. Sure did take care of my misfire that's for sure.

I dont know the part number for the NGK's I use unfortunatly. They're definetly good plugs. I've been using them for about a year or so.

Thanks for the info. In general if you foul your plugs, do you have to scrap them or can you clean em off and re-gap if necessary. Whenever I thought that I had fouled my plugs, I just tossed them in the trash

I usually just clean mine off gently with a wire brush and throw 'em back in.
I was wondering if there was some sort of solution I could dip them in to clean them off without killing the plugs also.
