I am making a homemade SMIC sprayer kit. So far I have a bottle, sprayer bar, steel line, and a remote bottle opener. I heard I would need a solenoid to attach to the sprayer bar so I could control how much nitrous flows into the bar when I engage it. Question is, does the solenoid control how much nitrous actually flows, or is it just wide open? Can you set the solenoid for say, a 75shot into the sprayer bar or do I need some sort of "jet"? I've never dealt much with nitrous, always with turbos. Thanks for the help.

Pretty sure the common solenoid valve is just "open" or "closed". The jets are just an orifice that you put in the line to control the flow.

so....I shouldn't need a jet at all then, just the solenoid?

The spray bar should have tiny holes down its length. The size and number of those holes should control how much N2O flows out. So, I think you just need the solenoid to send the N2O to the bar.

The solenoid is basically just an electronic valve. You have no control over how much it sprays, it's either 100% open or closed. Your spray bar should have the holes fitted to your need. Kind of like how we jet our lines to get the "shot" we want.

The problem that you may run into is that because there is no jet, the volume of nitrous you are sending through the line may cause the solinoid to freeze and lock up. One person i know had this happen to them, and decided to use a remote bottle openner instead. he's had no problems since.

I have the NOS/Holley remote bottle opener, which appears to be nothing more then a solenoid. Think that would be all I need?
