53428, For those who use/used the Starion FMIC.. Posted by XtremeRS, Aug-05-03 02:50 PM
How well do these work? Anyone know their efficient CFM rating? What mods to the bumper area needs to be done, and how well does it fit? I assume if i got a fully stock one, that the pipe that comes accros the top of the IC will have to get cut and put closer to the IC?? I know all about modifiying the pipes too for the proper direction. I know a guy who is selling one in pretty good shape for 150 shipped. Any approxamate boost levels without heat soak?? I'll be running a S20G in the winter/spring with this also.

If you're using the S20G, get a REAL intercooler! The Starion won't efficiently cool the air and you'll pre-det from the hot air.
I ran my Starion at all boost levels under 25psi with a Garrett T3. anything above 16psi will heat soak it in any weather condition. It's a great intercooler for up to 15psi. I was detonating bad at ~22psi

well for 20 bux for one I found at a junkyard I think its a good deal.
The starion IC is a pretty good ic. its good for a stock ones that is. I believe I got 1-2 psi drop with it depending on temperature.

It's a bargain IC and it's worth the money you pay for it until you start boosting crazy. Then it's lousy because it can't effectively cool the charge air enough. Sub 15psi ... good over 15psi crap.
Matt, if you're gonna be boosting as much as I think you will with the s20g get a better intercooler (like the one Jason Boltz got). He noticed a huge difference in how is car performed from using the starion at 15psi to his new IC at 15psi. If you're going all out (I think you are since you're getting a s20g) don't skimp on the IC.

Hey thanks for the input guys..Yeah, i plan on running the Greddy E-manage, S20G and whatever boost i can throw at it..prob run 15-18 psi on the street, and hopefully around 20 or so at the track with racegas..damn, what was that thread that Jason said he got his IC from??? I know i just saw it not long ago...

I have personal experience with this question.
This IC definitely poops out at about 12-13 psi with the S16g. I can definitely tell at that psi range, the IC stops cooling anything adequately.

I will second, third, and fourth all of the above... I went from the HRC sidemount to a Starion for about 3 days total on my car. (between 8 and 13psi there was hardly a differnce to be felt) having been though both sidemount and front, it just makes more sense to go with something that will support your future mods. I ended up having Buschur make me one with a 24x8x3 core.
420a and ej20... both with boost

How much boost is the HRC front mount good for?

Not sure on boost, however I read somewhere that the HRC sidemount was good for 300whp applications.. Granted, the "spearco" core does have a decent amount of cross-sectional surface area for what it is, and the tanks have a good design.. but it is still pretty small and I haven't seen a car making that power still with it on. (it may be possible)

Does ne1 know if that starion ic gets heatsoaked fast? Haha cuz on my car, driving at night and in the day are totally different.

haha I CALLED HRC about the FMIC today :P Damn, wish i could have ordered it hehe..But you know what, that is one BAD ASS FMIC. We helped install soulcontroller's in his car..man that thing is just plain sexy hahah :) I can get lots of Spearco cores and finished IC's from my shop also. I can get a 3.5"x6.5"x24" for around 620 bucks..Flows 430 HP and 640 cfm's efficiently..What you think? That really is still more than i want to spend..
Check this out..At around 80+ degrees outside temp, at 13 psi, and on a LONG 4th gear WOT pull, my datalogger tells me my intake air temp was almost 150 degrees!!!! shit.. Running a 1/4 mile its just fine though, and when its cooler out its fine..

its dead sexah!!!!
the hrc is one nice fmic. its totally overkill for a stage II (6-7 psi), but if things are timed right that will change by the end of summer!
it bolts right up, but i had a little front fascia modification i had to do to make it fit.
*actually in my sig you can see part of the side air duct i had to cut to fit one of the pipes, sort of a J looking slice out of it... hard to describe i guess.

MATT!!!!! Get the new HRC Universal FMIC right here ...
http://www.hahnracecraft.com/auto/sales/sales.htm
It's bigger than the one your local place has and it looks just like the Eclipse one ... you just have to do some creative piping with it. Just make sure to ask them to put brackets on it so it will mount up just like the Eclipse one. It's the one I got!! }(

53784, Avenger are those the Shoguns on your ride??? Posted by Phat99Eclipse, Aug-10-03 03:50 PM
I have been wanting to get those for about the last 2 years, but for some reason I keep spending my money on my 2 kids... something about food and a roof or something like that.... atleast that is what my wife keeps telling me... haha...
Do you like them and how much do they weigh? Thanks in advance for the help...
