do you all think it would be a good idea to weld the oil drain fitting from the inside and outside areas. i was thinking that this would help eliminate all possibilities of leaks in this area.

is the oil pan pressurized?

i am doing the turbo install piece by piece (sfmu done; vac line done; boost gauge done) and am thinking of doing the turbo drain line this week but of course, it won't be draining any turbo oil. so maybe attaching the drain line, point it up, use some type of tie to secure it to the body against any hard impact so that once all is said and done, just attach the turbo on.

if the pan is pressurized, then of course the oil would squirt everywhere and scratch this idea.


finally, i was attempting to solder the inline fuel pump components with a radio shack 15 watt solder. needless to say, the solder didn't make a dent. what are you all using, and where did you all buy them.

i dont think the pan is pressurized. and if ya do that, then run the feed and return lines together so it just cycles.

pan is not pressurized, the return line off the turbo is gravity fed. its okay to weld to the pan. i brazed my fitting since it was brass, but no issues so for!

welding would definately make a nice fit, it may be overkill though. my HRC bulkhead fitting started to leak about 6 months after the turbo install - i just tightened it up and it's been fine since then.

been using those flanges and stuff that came with the star kit and been working great so far :thumbsup

The hardline was touching my water pipe though so when I was doing the rebuild I took a torch and bent it slightly.

Has anyone used JB Weld on the oil pan fitting? I'm about to do an install on a car that would be much easier w/o pan removal (long story). I was thinking abotu getting an Earl's -10AN weld bung and drill/vacuum then use JB Weld. Think it'll hold? How long?

JB weld was used to secure my oil pan fitting. It holds solid, without any leak, for about two years now. JB Weld is the sh*t!:thumbsup
