53199, Stock manifold for turbo?
Posted by 97-rs, Aug-02-03 08:09 AM
Im doing a custom install on a 97 eclipse rs, im running an IHI RHB5(off the old probes) and my freind at work told me since my mani and downpipe bolt together, that i could go to a fabrication shop and just have them make an adapter to fit on the end of the mani that will fit to the turbo.

Has anyone tried this yet, and do you guys think i will have major problems? My mani doesnt have any cracks.....yet.

Also i was thinking about just going ot a junkyard and taking one from a 99 420a.

Any comments?

knowing the only person to ever attach a turbo to a stock manifold(wheatking) and seeing the job and hearing of the problems spend the money pay 250-300$ for a turbo manifold built for the car

email me and i can have one built for ya or i can direct u to others who can...

in those pictures he has the turbo just hanging there with zip ties......

im going ot have an adapter so both ends (the mani, and the turbo) fit together.

I'm having a local shop fabricate all of the piping, but they all said like 400-500 for the mani...

I'm sure it can be done without too many problems, if you take your time and figure everything out before hand. Def have a flange welded on to the stock mani. The turbo that was used in those pics doesnt really look like it would fit too well, maybe thats why it was a PITA. By looking at it, if you use the S16G turbo, it should fit ok, but my only concern is the wastegate acuator hitting the starter or coolant pipe..might have to convert it to a external wastegate, or use the T3/T4 turbo.. IMO, i think our stock exaust mani would flow really well into a turbo..I say go for it, and let us know the results!
