Just thought i would share a few of the recent progress pictures
of my turbo project... enjoy!
Here are some of the pictures of the first day we worked on putting things back together:

A picture of the engine in the car with the turbo all mounted up to the intercooler...

with one of the new head lights in you can see the reflection on the projector beam from the flash... you can also see the front mount intercooler... very nice!!! next stop to get painted SI Blue...

i like the blue shortblock... looks just like mine did. Howell paints their blocks the same color.

the turbo outlet is original. i haven't seen any other 2gnt's do that before.

I agree with ^^^ I have NEVER seen anyone do the intake side on the passenger side of the car. Will you have enough room to make the DP work on the driver side? Also, who made your manifold? This could be a new begining for the 2gnt turbo setup.

Yes, we will have enough room for the down pipe.. we are using 3'in pipes the down pipe will go straight down under the oilpan right after the oil pan slopes up.... I have a buddy that is doing all my welding and pipes.. all stainless.. as he get's really good deals on the material. He is currently making a custom downpipe..

A gentleman by the name of Ted Morgan made the manifold.. I had him custom build the wastegate flange on the top to go to the side instead of straight up and down... We have put a lot of thought into this.. spent many hours sitting in front of the car just thinking...

I had the exact same worry about the rudoro body kit... that i would be too low... I have sprint springers i belive it was a 3" drop and i still have a little room.. I have 17in Enkie RS-6's with p215-45-17Z pilots...
and I have about a half inch or so in some spots in others more... It looks very good on there even for not being painted... we had to do some sanding and we used a small rivit gun for the side skirts... as most people use bolts and i guess im a perfectionist and wanted to try something different....

The entire idea behind this project was to be original... to be different in some way... i had no idea nobody in this group has tried this yet... I will for sure follow up with everyone and let them know how things are coming...

My welder and body paint guy is out until friday and so is my friend who is great with electronics.. We won't be working on the car until friday afternoon .. we got the body kit on we will probably take it to get painted before we do anymore work in the engine bay.

I'm hoping it will work :) "crosses his fingers" ... I see no reason why it shouldn't... we have plenty of space in the engine compartment left we are waiting for the venom intake manifold... overboost.com takes too long to get one in.. I had to order one from jegs.com we are also going to do a battery re-location and a fuel cell setup along with a in-line HP fuel pump... I will only be driving her a few days out of the week as i have a 1993 BMW 325i as a daily driver.. as well as a dinky 1997 Chevy malibu my wife drives if i need it... blah.. almost like driving a mini van in my mind...

I like the OZ editions... very nice :)

Yeah, It's a custom kit we put a lot of thinking into this... and if you noticed one of the fans is missing.. we put a smaller but yet more powerfull fan to push air into the radiator from the other side to cool better. Will be interesting to see once it's all setup.

now that is EXACTLY how I pictured what an optimal turbo configuration would look like. the intake comes from the passenger side, a nice smooth flow back to the intercooler. And the exhaust outlet has plenty of room to make a gradual bend back, via the driver's side. no worrying about making a sharp turn to dodge the a/c compressor etc... Everytime I looked at Hahn's turbo, with all the associated 90 degree turns in piping etc, it just looked flipped 180 degrees wrong

I will be uploading more pictures this friday i'm sure... I just ordered the down pipe flanges all the pipes are stainless.. we are going to be using the flow master muffler haven't decided yet on the cat...

We aren't going to touch the engine for an other week... as we are getting it painted "SI" blue Paint code: b95p.

why has nobody done the turbo like that until now?

who knows... probably because people would rather buy kits and the kits aren't all that custom.. when you have your own welder and have a few extra bucks and the patience to sit down and do research and ask A LOT of questions.. things just kind of come together.

What about a/c and p/s? I think that that is reason why most kits an custom jobs are flipped the other way.

Very good possibility, I can't say if my setup would work or not with eaither simply for the fact that i took mine out... I wish i wouldn't have taken out my a/c.. cuz it's damn hot here lately.. but i work during the day most the time and by night i typically drive with the windows down and the sunroof back and the music up so to be honest i think they are just power hogs that can go... some people are willing to sacrafice it some aren't... we may try and put a/c back in just to see if we can get it to fit... maybe we can make some custom brakets and pipes and make a conversion kit...

I understand that, but since DSMs have had the turbo pointed in that direction for 13 years now, its no wonder someone finally decided to try it with the 420a.

ooooh the ALMIGHTY 4G63. lol. it makes sense, I was just wondering why nobody had done it thta way on the 420A. I wonder how much of a difference there will be?

I will let everyone know.. that is for sure.. From all my research i have found that the 420A has a stronger bottom end then the 4g63 and we don't have to worry about the notorious crank walk issue with the 420a..


If you want my honest oppinion with how smooth this setup is going, I think it's going to work out VERY well... before I left my shop the other day sitting there looking at my engine compartment I had TONZ of room left with that fan gone and in other places as well..

We are re-locating the battery to the rear of the car using a battery relocation kit.. I've also ordered the down pipe flange and some flex pipe and i'm going to have my buddy weld that up probably this friday..
we are also going to be welding up all the holes from the previous spoiler and will be doing a little body work and then taking it to the shop that will be doing my paint...

I have a vennom intake manifold coming as well and a MSD inline fuel pump for the fuel cell..

The 6 bolt bottom end is one of the best bottom ends available, with the capability of running 10s on the stock bottom end without new pistons. Furthermore, the deck on the 4G63 is mostly closed. This is a better design for rigidity and strength. The 420a, on the other hand, has a bedplate on the bottom end, which increases torsional rigidity greatly. Seems pretty even to me. As for the turbo setup, the reason that the "unoriginal kits" don't set the turbo that way is that some people are crazy enough to want to keep power steering and air conditioning. Silly them.
