hey everyone i just got back from the track and i cant launch my car at all. i ran a 14.411 at 101.31 with a 2.5 60' at 11psi. also ran a 14.5 @ 100 2.6 60' i would post the pics of the timeslips but i have no idea how to. do yall use any special techniques when launching because i have to get my 60' times down they are killing me. any suggetions would be great

Check the racing forum. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere once you want to rev the car to about 3,000 rpm's and then drop the clutch. I haven't been to the track yet though, so I'm no expert.

traction? whats that :) To run good 1/4 times with a FWD turbo car, its almost a necessity to use drag radials or even slicks. To date, my best 60ft time is a 2.3 on my Toyo street tires and 17's. Its def a skill to master.

With that mph you should be gettign much better times. I ran a 14.3 @96.5 mph on 16" kumhos with a 2.30 60ft. And it was at only 8 psi. Work on the launch.

I agree you need traction, you probably spun through second gear or launched low and bogged way down. I had a hard time when I first started so I just kept practicing and then got some drag radials. They helped alot so if you are really into your track racing I say invest in some they are not that expensive. Also try to find a lonely road and practice your launch there and the next time you go to the track you will have a set way that you like to launch. Good luck :thumbsup

Yeah, your MPH is good for at least high 13's..if not mid 13's with a 2.0 or better 60ft time. Its ALL in the 60ft time. Its also very, very difficult to pull a 2.0 or better 60ft on street tires, and with no limited slip diff.. Thats why i hate looking at 1/4 mile times. They never really tell how fast your car is, more so of how good of driver you are. I like looking at dyno #'s, as that tells you of your true power, and what you *should* run in a 1/4, providing you can launch the shit out of it. I see so many posts of guys being very dissapointed in their 1/4 times, and say, "my car should be so much faster than that with the turbo".. Well it is..really.. HRC, Bill Hahn JR. to be exact, can drive damn well. He pulls 1.7 60fters with slicks..thats about a full 1.5 seconds faster in the 1/4 than pulling a 2.5 or 2.6 60ft time.. Give your car to him, put some slicks on the front, and i'll bet he can make your car run mid/high 13's easy. I suck at launching, and find it an everchanging technique. It just takes LOTS of practice, and a properly setup car. Keep all the weight up front, use adjustable shocks in the back, set all the way stiff, use an lsd in the trans, and some drag radials, or slicks up front. The rest is up to the driver.

I agree completely, its all in the launch. I absolutely suck at launching a fwd car on 17's. I can pull 1.9's on street tires ina RWD car and 1.7 with DR's but I am pulling consistent 2.9's in my talon lol, I just spin and spin some more. I tried a lot of different ways to launch it at 10 psi but they all net wheel spin. I am buying slicks because I am getting 15.0 in the quarter at 98 mph, hell I was trapping 96 in my stang off the bottle and it was a 13.7, just a wicked 60 so I just have to get the car to hook, its not the cars or the systems fault, mostly all our own lol.

I betcha I could jump in and run high 13's all day in that car :+ Like these guys said, it's all in the launch. You don't want to be too agressive with these cars when turbo'd. I find easying off the clutch while slowly giving it throttle worked best for me, and of course shifting extremely quick. Just remember, practice makes perfect!

I would love to pull a 13 second time slip. i just need to practice and get some slicks. i was also on my 18s with the worst camber in the world i guess that didnt help any. thnaks for all the input. around what rpm do u think i should start feathering the clutch out i usually try 3500 - 4000 but i either spin or bog.
