i have a problem with my exhaust being too loud, which i know it's cool but not for the cops and neighbors. so i'm wondering if you guys suggest this idea, which i don't know if many of you have here, but maybe this will sort of give you the same gains without being too noisy...




i drew out this exhaust system simulating a true dual exhaust system, instead of these fake ones i've seen that only run from the side of the rear outlet piping to the right side of the bumper. i might take this approach and maybe it would help quiet down my exhaust, and at the same time keep the same exhaust flow without sacrficing HP. give me back some feed back on this...peace.

I heard that if you split the exhaust before the cat (or if there is no cat) you'll lose lots of backpressure. If you're going to do a dual exhaust set up split the piping after the cat. If you have too much flow of air you'll lose power. Hope that helps.

When your turbo there's really no such thing as too little backpressure. I don't think that settup will fit under the car. It would have to hang down pretty low.

This is a pretty costly solution.... but if you have to, put a Greddy EVO catback on there. thats what i have, and its REEEEALLY deep sounding. and only loud when you want it to be. normally, turbo cars are quieter than NA's with the same exhaust...cause the big exhaust restriction tends to quieten it down.

Yeah, my Talon has 2.5 inch pipe from the turbo back, no cats, no resonators, nothing at all and a HUGE RS racing can on the back because it has a 2.5 inlet and then the resonated muffler part expands to close to 4 inches inside, its like having a straight pipe pretty buch but its only loud when you first start to take off and let out the clutch. Other than that I can run the crap out of it and not much noise. The turbo keeps it pretty quite.

yeah i found how much a setup like that is...$600. i'm like hellz no! all i'm thinking now is then having two 3" resonators on the same pipe. i also heard a TT 300zx the other day with Greddy Exhaust, and the rumble and sound when boosting sounds similar to mine. i have the star downpipe to a custom 3" piping to a 3" resonator to a magnaflow 3" race muffler. so i'm guessing even if i had dual exhaust, it wouldn't make that much of a difference. so maybe welding another resonator might help. i guess i would put it where the cat used to be.

dude, it's your Magnaflow muffler that is giving you the loud exauast. You can add all the resonators you want, but that muffler is a loud muffler. I had the round magnalfow as well, and it was too loud for me. I went with a nice SS oval shaped Boral muffler, and it sounds nice and deep, good tone, not raspy, and not drony on the highway. I run a gutted cat, 2.5" resonator, and 3" cat back piping, to 3"Borla muffler inlet.
