Another incident involving a blown stock flywheel. This is very scary stuff. It's time for many of us to get a scatter shield and upgraded flywheels, especially for anyone making over 300whp. The problem is that no one makes one for the 420A yet. I seriously think we need to look into this...possibly going some place to have it made. Does anyone on this board live near Road Race Engineering? Since they make one for the 4g63, hopefully they will also begin production for us, too.

Having a scattershield made is not actually a difficult thing. Anybody with good sheetmetal fabrication experience could make one. Check with one of the fast shops as you might find they already have considering it is required in fast import drag cars. If it is any extra comfort, the fact our flywheel is riveted to the clutch does help some with this issue.

There are aftermarket flywheels for our cars too. Clutch masters makes one and there are others too.

I am scattershield equipped. the local V8 shop here made me one. i probably wont ever need it, but i like having both legs. :-)

Actually my clutch has the rivets come appart during a pull at atco NJ. Destroyed my tranny and the clutch hydraulic line...but nothing else...

yeah this guy in my club makes custom scattershields..i won one in an auction.. i'll never turn my car into an 11 second car so i sold it for $150

omg man that is some real scary shit !! Hopefully my car will someday soon get near 11's, what is a scatter shield and how will it prevent my flywheel from sawing my legs off. I mean if it can shoot threw the tranny this scatter schield has to be made with heavy duty stuff.

Ditto... I was running a Centerforce at the time... one of the pins broke loose and blew a hole the size of a dime through my bell housing.

scattersheilds are made jsut not udner the 2gnt name if people are really interested ill go figure out which neon dealer had them i cant rmember right now but ive seen them

I'm definitely looking to buy one. If you guys know who carries one, please post here. I've checked Howell's and Modern Performance--none sold there. The cars that were damaged by this same type of occurrence made about 260-300 whp, and I dyno'd 310 fwhp last year. With a bigger fmic, a S20G, and an open exhaust, my car should be putting down around 350+ fwhp, so I'm very paranoid whenever I go WOT.

www.machv.com sells one for AWD turbo for $150.. i dont know if they make them for FWD 2G 4g63s..haven't seen any..mine was custom made. It was made by #3/2000 GVR4 aka harry Blanchard..he does really good work. everyone wanted that scattershield that i had won. it was nice.

RRE and MachV makes one for the FWD 4G63, but I don't believe it will fit the 420A tranny. It will probably have to be one for a Neon tranny or something. Someone correct me if I'm incorrect here. Thanks guys!
