I was racing last night and all of a sudden pshht then it sounded like someone was holding a piece of paper out of the window like a flapping noise. I pull over and look, and dont see any fluids or smell anything funny. I leave and go back home and it makes the noise if i go over a certain rpm and i believe a certain mph. When i got home it was making the noise barely while sitting at idle and i have yet to crank it since. I am going to jack it up after work and see if its the dp cuz the star dp sucks and mine is not on well and i have had a big exhaust leak. What do you guys think?? I barely got any sleep last night and had to come to work today and have been worried all day. I dont know my internals that well yet so if it is a spun bearing will i need to rebuild or buy a bottom end motor. If so i found another site besides howell. A place in orlando if anyone lives there. www.rpmextreme.com sells blocks and heads for our cars with different options available and seem to be pretty cheap. So whacha think? ;(

anthony, if it is a spun rod bearing then it will make a loud knock in the motor that will vary with rpm at idle prolly 2-3 knocks per second. If it is a valvetrain problem then it will make that noise at a much higher tempo. but what you described sounds to me like an exhaust leak. Regardless, if you need a new motor let me know, I have a guy that builds race motors and builds them cheap. He is very very good, at least I could try and get you an estimate. But I hope you don't need this. Later dood.

concerning the second part of your thread...

rpmexteme has been mentioned more than a few times in other threads as another possible source for built engines (for CHEAP!!).....however NO ONE (that i know of) has actually ordered one. there was talk a long long time ago in forum far, far away ( www.dsmtuners.com or www.dsmtalk.com .. cant remember which one ) of someone going by the place to see if it was a reputable shop. i never saw the end of the thread though, so i dont know what the outcome was. i would recommend searching on this and the other sites for more info.

It will most likely be an exhaust leak from the sounds of it. Otherwise possibly the tranny, but it would be a lot more obvious and loud. If you want to check the bearings, it is very easy to do. Drop the oil pan and you can removes the rod caps which will allow you to quickly check out the bearings to be sure. I would start with visually checking the downpipe for leaks though.

easiest way to check for exaust leak it to start teh car have someone put a rag over the muffler and you walk up the car listening for leaks. make sure you cover up the muffler completly but don't hold it on forever keep letting off and recovering every 30sec to 1min or so

Do you have an intercooler? i bet you either blew an IC pipe part of the way off, or you have an exhaust leak like everyone stated. if its a bearing failure, you WILL know it. very distinct, make you sick at your stomach ticking sound, that will get louder with higher RPM's. also, a spun bearing us normally more audible when the engine is warmed, and quieter when it is cold. a valvetrain problem is normally the reverse, loud when cold, quieter when warmed up.
